Safe to say the Dallas Cowboys have been more than satisfied with their decision to draft CeeDee Lamb 17th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft.
The former Oklahoma Sooners standout has become one of the best wide receivers in the league, and although the Cowboys are going through a difficult 2024 campaign, that hasn't tarnished Lamb's standings within the league.
As Lamb continues to grow and establish himself as one of the best players in the NFL, the 25-year-old once talked about his own personal aspirations and legacy.
Why Lamb didn't want to wear #88
In an interview on '1st & Ten: CeeDee Lamb' on the Cowboys' official YouTube channel in 2021, Lamb opened up about why he didn't want to wear #88 when he initially broke into the league.
"It wasn't my first option," Lamb said. "All the guys and all the things they did in that number, I kind of wanted to start my own legacy."
Having worn the #2 at Oklahoma, Lamb says he wanted to wear #10 when he ed the Cowboys.
"I saw 88," Lamb told 105.3 FM in 2020. "But I was like, you know what, these guys had their time in this jersey number. So I'll try 10."
Notable players to wear the #10 jersey for the Cowboys include Reggae Collier and Tavon Austin, while the likes of Drew Pearson, Michael Irvin and Dez Bryant wore #88.
Lamb says he changed his mind after talking to Irvin, who told him to embrace the history and tradition that wearing #88 brings with it.
"In order to get this number, you must be what we call a 'true bred'-that means born, bleed, and bred right here with the Dallas Cowboys," Irvin said in 2020.
"Drew Pearson was that. Michael Irvin was that. Dez Bryant was that, and now CeeDee Lamb is that. And I love this kid."
