If you're using VA Chapter 35 benefits to help cover school costs, June might be a busy month-especially if you're enrolled in a summer session. But while the textbooks and deadlines can be overwhelming, the question on most students' minds is simple: When's that next check coming?

Good news-if your school certified your enrollment and you're actively attending classes in June, the VA should process your payment around July 1, 2025, since benefits are paid the month after you attend. Depending on your bank, you might see the funds that day or a few days later.

Chapter 35, officially called the DEA (Dependents' Educational Assistance) program, offers monthly education benefits to spouses and children of veterans who are permanently disabled or ed away due to service-related causes. The payment amount you receive depends on how many classes you're taking-or in VA , your enrollment status.

How Much Will You Actually Get Paid?

Is Trump's wildly expensive 'Golden Dome' plan even possible?

For full-time college or trade school students, the monthly rate is $1,536.00. If you're attending time, you'll see about $1,214.00, and $890.00 for half-time enrollment. If you're enrolled for less than half-time, the VA will either prorate your monthly rate or pay a lump sum that covers your tuition and fees-whichever is lower.

Summer students, heads up: if your session starts mid-month (say, June 10), your June payment will be prorated-about $1,075.20 for full-time enrollment in that case. This is because the VA only pays for the days you're actually in class.

Apprentices and on-the-job trainees get a slightly different rate, starting at $975.00/month for the first six months of training and decreasing over time.

To avoid delays, make sure your school's VA Certifying Official has submitted your enrollment early. Processing can take 4-6 weeks, and if the VA doesn't have your paperwork, there's no payment coming-yet.
