It has been two seasons since Puka Nacua arrived in the NFL as a fifth-round draft pick. Immediately, with his talent, skills, and especially his outstanding performances, he has become a star in the league.
Cooper Kupp was the Rams' big star, but Nacua earned the spot as the team's primary receiver, so much so that Kupp had to leave to get a chance with the Seattle Seahawks.
In his rookie season in 2023, Nacua broke NFL records with 105 receptions and 1,486 receiving yards, setting a record for a rookie. In 2024, despite missing some games due to injuries, he also stood out during the season. In both years, the Rams made it to the playoffs.
Despite his young career, Nacua already has his NFL retirement date in mind
In an interview on the " The Lobby" podcast, the Rams star mentioned that he is clear on when he will retire from the sport: at 30 years old.
"I know I want to retire at 30," Nacua stated. "I'm 23 now, I'm going into my third year. It wouldn't even be 10 years, maybe seven or eight. I think of Aaron Donald, going out on top would be amazing. But I also want to have a big family. I come from a large family, so I need to have five boys. Also, I want to be able to be an active part of their lives. Injuries in the NFL are inevitable, and you can't control everything, so you never know what might happen. Hopefully, I can stay healthy, but shoulder, knee, and ankle surgeries are common. By the time my kids are 18, I could barely be walking if I keep playing and accumulating injuries. That's why I want to retire early."
Puka Nacua's goal is clear: to retire at the top of his career, just like Aaron Donald, the legendary Rams and NFL defensive player, who will be in the Hall of Fame in a few years.
