Patrick Mahomes celebrates Mavericks' NBA Lottery win amid rigging allegations

Patrick Mahomes made headlines once again, this time for his animated reaction to a surprising NBA development as he Dallas Mavericks, holding just a 1.8% chance of winning the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery, were awarded the No. 1 overall pick.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is a longtime fan of the Texas-based franchise and posted an animated reaction online to the news that they landed the perfect opportunity to replace Luka Doncic.

Fans will their shock at the news that the Slovenian, regarded as one of the best basketballers in the world, was being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis.

Yet now they're offered a golden chance to replace the lost talent with the first pick, likely to be used on the Duke Blue Devils' Cooper Flagg, and Mahomes was stunned at the announcement.

"OMGGGGG!! Let's goo!!!!!" Mahomes posted to X.com, formerly Twitter, followed shortly by another message reading, "GOOO @dallasmavs."

Was the NBA Draft Lottery rigged? Theories fly

Why was he so stunned? The franchise actually had a minimal chance of pulling off the feat. Holding just a 1.8% chance, an incredible 92 times out of 100 would have seen them miss the first pick.

Yet they landed it anyway and some people aren't too convinced that it wasn't without outside interference, such as the Chiefs defensive end Charles Omenihu who publicly challenged the legitimacy of the result, replying, "Pat you know this was rigged right ? @PatrickMahomes."

As reactionary as ever, fans were naturally on the defensive end's side and questioned the NBA Lottery validity because of the major convenience of the outcome via X.com, now owned by Elon Musk.

One fan said, "Charles you are spot on here!"

A second said, "Yep rigged lol."

And a third noted, "F**k yeah let Pat know Charles!"

He's not the only one buying into the conspiracy either. The Los Angeles Lakers' LeBron James hinted at it just months after suggesting the 2003 NBA Draft was carefully curated to send the Akron-born hooper to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Posting a series of crying-of-laughter emojis to X.com, he showed he isn't convinced in the legitimacy of the moment as far as his thoughts were concerned, building on his comments to The Pat McAfee Show previously.

"During the lottery drop, Cleveland got the No. 1 pick," James recalled. "I just don't think that was - what a coincidence.

"Let's keep LeBron home. You know what? Patrick Ewing to the Knicks. Derrick Rose to the Bulls. I understand the assignment, guys."

The theory behind the rigging claims is that the NBA seeks to make Dallas whole after apparently producing a three-way conspiracy between the NBA, Lakers and Mavericks to trade Doncic to improve ratings. No evidence s this.
