Nearly a month removed from being projected as a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Shedeur Sanders' fall continues to raise eyebrows.
The former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback was a fifth-round pick with the 144th selection by Cleveland Browns. Now, he is fighting for his starting job with the team against Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel who was selected in the third round of the draft.
Despite this, although the team has yet to decide who will be QB1 in Week 1, a former Denver Broncos offensive back and ESPN analyst knows for sure. Domonique Foxworth told "Get Up" Shedeur is the perfect candidate to take the starting job at the beginning of the season and explained the reasons why he believes this will happen:
I think they want to know what they have in either Shedeur or Gabriel before the season is over because there's a chance they'll be at the top of a good quarterback draft again next year. I think they'll move quickly to get those guys on the field to see what kind of players they will be.
Foxworth isn't the only one who thinks so
One who echoed Domonique's words was ESPN colleague Louis Riddick. The former San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns safety, who explained that "It's all as long as they can get him enough reps." He also added that Browns coach Kevin Stefanski knows that by changing the way he redistributes reps during the offseason, he can "create a real quarterback competition."
Thus, if Shedeur Sanders can compete with Gabriel, Flacco and Pickett, "there's a good chance that, if it's an organic, level playing field competition, he could be your Week 1 starter, no question," Riddick said.
Despite the fact that Stefanski has not made it known who will ultimately be the team's QB1, he has the final say and we'll have to wait to find out.
