The movie 'Jurassic Park', which was released in 1994, was instrumental in bringing dinosaurs back into the limelight. Since then, these prehistoric creatures have made their way into movies, TV shows, novels, toys and have always been part of school culture in the early years. In addition, new discoveries of these animals in excavations carried out around the world have always made the news.
The latest dinosaur discovered was recently found on the Scottish island of Skye. It is a Middle Jurassic dinosaur that was the size of a large dog and whose diet was plant-based. This animal, which is known to have been a juvenile, was discovered in the Scottish rocks and is the first skeleton to be found in decades.
The difficulty of access is the reason for its late discovery
Many will wonder why something so valuable was not discovered before, but access to this part of Scotland is more than complicated, and it is the first partial dinosaur skeleton to be found in these lands to date. The reason this specimen was not found earlier is that its remote location has made collection work difficult until more recent years.
In fact, the fossil had to be extracted at low tide as the skeleton was embedded in hard limestone along the coast. To detach it from the rock, ropes, wedges and also a motorboat from the sea were needed, which was the one that transported the complete block to a safe place in the port. In addition, in order to remove the dinosaur, the team had to receive the necessary permits as the area is considered a protected Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
As for what is known about the prehistoric animal, paleontologists indicate that the animal reached the size of a large dog and probably moved on sturdy legs and fed on vegetation.
