Maximum alert in the United States: a plague of ants whose bite is deadly to humans is spreading along the east coast of the country

The United States is facing a medical problem in much of its southeastern part. An Asian needle ant infestation has become established in the area and cases continue to rise exponentially, according to the US Department of Agriculture. The solution to this setback does not seem to be an easy one for pest control services.

The sting of the Asian needle ant can cause anaphylaxis and, in extreme cases, death. Dan Suiter, Orkin Distinguished Professor of Urban Entomology at the University of Georgia, describes the pest as "very important". He also says that this animal is not aggressive, but it does sting if it gets under clothing. This is the most common case among those affected.

"The situation becomes a little more serious when an insect bite can endanger the lives of people suffering from anaphylaxis," Suiter explains of the worst consequences of the sting of this ant species. The state most affected by the plague is Georgia, although other states along the east coast are also facing this problem.

How to relieve pain from the Asian needle ant sting

First, the area should be washed with soap and water. It is then advisable to apply ice to reduce inflammation. If the pain persists, it would be good to use an antihistamine or hydrocortisone cream, although always following medical recommendations
