Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has often graced magazine covers, particularly after her transition from actress to royalty. However, a recent report has shed light on her failed 2022 bid for the coveted September cover of Vogue.

Known as the most significant issue of the year in the fashion world, the September cover can be a massive publicity boost for any celebrity. Markle's attempt to secure this spot reportedly ended in disappointment, with new details emerging about why Anna Wintour, the legendary editor of Vogue, ultimately declined her request.

Out of the ordinary! Kate Middleton breaks royal protocol over a mishap

According to the Daily Mail, Meghan Markle was vying for the Vogue September cover while celebrating her keynote speech at the One Young World Summit and promoting her podcast, Archetypes. Markle was working closely with Edward Enninful, then-editor of UK Vogue, on a feature for the issue.

However, tensions arose when Markle expressed her desire to appear on the cover. Enninful had already chosen supermodel Linda Evangelista as the cover star. A source revealed, "The duchess and her team had high expectations and were expecting she might get a print cover or at least a digital cover out of it, but Enninful was not able to meet those expectations."

What Meghan's cover controversy tells us about celebrity power

Unhappy with the decision, Markle reportedly escalated the matter to Anna Wintour. As the editor-in-chief of US Vogue and global editorial director of all Vogue publications, Wintour holds significant authority over the magazine's content. However, Wintour also declined Markle's request. Adding another layer to the story, a source told Page Six, "Meghan asked for control over photographer, writer, final edit, photos, cover lines, and wanted a global issue. Nobody gets that. Not even Beyoncé."

This revelation highlights Markle's ambitious vision for her potential Vogue feature. A global issue would have ensured her appearance on both US and UK Vogue covers for September, an unprecedented move for any celebrity. However, even Beyoncé-one of the world's most influential stars-has not been granted such extensive control over a Vogue cover.

Despite speculation that this incident strained Markle's friendship with Enninful, sources close to the situation claim otherwise. While the fallout may have sparked rumors of tension, it seems that Markle is maintaining professional relationships wherever possible.
