Viggo Mortensen has become one of the most popular international actors in Spain following his role in Spanish in 'Alatriste'. However, in addition to this, he has also earned the affection of Spaniards because of his closeness to the culture. Whenever he can, he does not hesitate to talk about the political situation in the country.
Once again, he did not hesitate to comment on Spanish current affairs in an interview with El Pais Semanal on the occasion of the premiere of 'Hasta el fin del mundo', the second film he has directed after 'Falling' (2020). As always, the 'Lord of the Rings' actor was very blunt.
Viggo Mortensen: "If you have no shame or moral com, you can go very far"
The main issue he has addressed is the polarization that exists at the moment both in the world and in Spain. And to do so, he compared Trump and Isabel Diaz Ayuso as very similar profiles that take advantage of this scenario. "There are those who take advantage of this division to sow their ideas, even if they are lies. This is demonstrated by the barbarities uttered by Trump and his partners," he said without hesitation.
After these words, his statements focused entirely on the president of the Community of Madrid, who he says uses the same strategies as the US president. "Only 10 years ago, I don't know if anyone would have let elderly people die during the pandemic, without medication, with the brazenness to say that, anyway, they were going to die anyway," he said.
"What I see here is that certain parties take note of what has worked for Trump and his ilk, and lie shamelessly. If you have no shame and no moral com, you can go a long way..." said the famous actor.
