Much has been said over the last few months about the future of the DC universe, a future that was greatly disrupted after the departure from the franchise of two of its most emblematic actors: Henry Cavill (Superman) and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman).

They were two performers loved by most of the DC fans, who, since the news of their departures, have felt bereft of hope for the future of the cinematic universe.

However, popular superhero film director James Gunn is ready to don the cape, literally, to get the entire franchise back on track, and he will do it by doing what he does best: directing.

James Gunn's tweet about 'Superman Legacy'

This has been confirmed in the last few hours by Gunn himself through a thread on his Twitter , speaking about his new film 'Superman Legacy'.

'Superman Legacy': Gunn confirms release date

Gunn shared the news on his Twitter and it came with an emotional detail that even he was not expecting.

"Yes, I'm directing 'Superman: Legacy' to be released on July 11, 2025," he wrote.

"My brother Matt told me when he saw the release date he started to cry.

"I asked him why. He said 'Dude, it's Dad's birthday'. I hadn't realized.

"I lost my Dad almost three years ago. He was my best friend. He didn't understand me as a kid, but he ed my love of comics and my love of film and I wouldn't be making this movie now without him."

It's certainly a happy day for DC fans, who see Gunn as the messiah of superheroes.

His filmography proves it, with such acclaimed titles in the genre as the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and 'The Suicide Squad' films.
