As if the lamentable report of the death of actor Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa on February 26 was not enough, a recent report from the Mono County Public Health Officer in California has gone down very badly in the United States, because of the same villain who was responsible for the death of the wife of the legendary actor.

The Hanta virus reappeared after killing Arakawa at his New Mexico home and tangentially Gene Hackman, and now it has done so in a small town in eastern California called Mammoth Lakes, where there are already three deaths attributed to this invisible enemy.

Outbreak in small California town

The small town located 530 kilometers from San Francisco recorded another death this week from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, the same scenario found in the Hackman home, particularly in Arakawa.Tom Boo, Public Health officer for the county, told various media outlets that the latest hantavirus case was "tragic and alarming" for the entire community, and said he did not know how the person who recently died from the virus became infected

Hantavirus is very aggressive and is transmitted to humans

Until now, it is well known that hantavirus is airborne and can affect humans if they are in with the feces and urine of rats and mice, a requirement that may have marked the sad fate of the Hackmans and could be repeated as a pattern now in this outbreak in Mammoth Lake.

The virus is very violent and kills one in three people who contract it, often through a condition that is confused with the common cold or flu, so symptoms are not treated quickly, after which a scenario occurs that triggers Hantavirus Pulmonary Respiratory Syndrome (HPS) which ends in death, in the worst case scenario.
