Hello and welcome to another MARCA in English live blog, this time taking you through a Euro 2024 round of 16 clash between England and Slovakia.

Gareth Southgate's side underwhelmed in the group stage but did still manage to finish top, with Denmark and Slovenia following them into the round of 16. Slovakia have done better than expected, finishing third in their group and beating Belgium along the way.

Stay tuned to follow the action from Gelsenkirchen, which gets underway at 18:00 CEST.

A reminder of yesterday's action

The first round of 16 matches took place yesterday. Italy came up against Switzerland and put in a terrible performance, losing 2-0. The Azzurri could have conceded a lot more and they have headed home in disgrace.

In Dortmund, got the better of Denmark 2-0, with the game being interrupted in the first half due to a serious thunderstorm. There was plenty of refereeing controversy with Denmark having a goal narrowly ruled out before then conceding a penalty for a handball that also divided opinion.

Slovakia's group stage

Slovakia found themselves in what proved to be the most exciting group of them all. Every team finished on four points and Calzona's side ended up in third, meaning they face a group winner. The headline for Slovakia is that they beat Belgium 1-0 in their opening game which was very unexpected.

The next game saw them lose 2-1 against Ukraine after taking the lead, but a draw against Romania was enough to secure safe age into this tie. Clearly, a win would have seen them top the group.

England XI: Pickford; Walker, Stones, Guehi, Trippier; Mainoo, Rice, Bellingham; Saka, Kane, Foden.

England's path to the last 16

England were drawn in a group with Denmark, Slovenia and Serbia. The campaign got underway against Serbia and after an early Jude Bellingham goal, the display got more and more stale but they did win 1-0.

They started well against Denmark too, with Harry Kane scoring, but a superb Morten Hjulmand strike and then a terrible rest of the match meant that England had work to do in the final game to assure top spot in the group. They only managed a 0-0 draw with Slovenia but still finished top thanks to other results.

Winning the group was always the aim, but England would have expected to score a lot more goals than two.

Harry Kane and Kieran Trippier celebrate

We're back for England vs Slovakia

A new day of Euro 2024 action is upon us and the first game of the day sees England take on Slovakia. Gareth Southgate needs to see a reaction from his lacklustre team who are not performing like they are the favorites.

As for sco Calzona's Slovakia team, anything from this point is a bonus and they will be looking to execute a similar game plan to when they beat Belgium 1-0 at the start of the group stage.

Switzerland and through to the quarter-finals

That's it for today's action, as Switzerland and book their place in the quarter-finals with impressive victories over Italy and Denmark.

us tomorrow for two more matches with England taking on Slovakia and Spain playing Georgia in the late match.

Full time: 2-0 Denmark

The hosts are through thanks to two goals in the second half from Havertz and Musiala.

The match saw goals for both sides ruled off, as well as a lengthy stoppage due to thunderstorms, but in the end it was who had too much for a timid Denmark.

It means will play one of Spain or Georgia in the quarter-finals in Stuttgart.

GOAL! 2-0 Denmark

have one foot in the quarter-finals as Musiala doubles their lead. A ball over the top from Schlotterbeck cuts out the entire midfield and sends the Bayern Munich man in goal.

He makes no mistake in picking out the far bottom corner to the delight of the home fans.

Havertz misses a glorious chance

After opening the scoring from the penalty spot, the Arsenal man can't add to his tally despite being played in one-on-one with Schmeichel. With just the goalkeeper to beat, he chips his effort just wide of the goal.

GOAL! 1-0 Denmark

Havertz makes no mistake from the penalty spot. Schmeichel guess the right way, but Havertz's shot hits the inside of the post and goes in.

PENALTY FOR !

What a couple of minutes for Andersen. After seeing a goal ruled off on the other end, he has now given away a penalty after a German cross crashes against his outstretched arm.

NO GOAL!

Denmark thought they had taken the lead when Joachim Andersen lashed home from 10 yards out.

However after a review, it was deemed he was offside.

Half-time: 0-0 Denmark

Interested first half that was temporarily suspended due to adverse weather conditions.

As for the action on the field, Schmeichel did well to keep Denmark in the match early on. After that things evened out, with Denmark getting a late chance that Neuer denied.

Big chance for Denmark!

Swift counter-attack from Denmark sees Delaney play in Hojlund. The Manchester United striker tries to dink it over the onrushing Neuer, but the German veteran just gets enough of it to keep it out.

Play resumes

Players are back out on the field and warming up. In fact, the referee drops the ball and the match is back underway in the 35th minute.

Play stopped

You don't see this often, but the match has been stopped and the players have left the field of play.

That's because referee Michael Oliver is worried about the lightning overhead, with heavy rain now falling onto the pitch. The players have gone to the locker room, so it is unclear when play will resume.

Nervy opening half hour

After saw an early goal ruled out, the match has settled into an even affair. Neither side have had any real clear chances, with Denmark seeing a free kick from a dangerous position blocked by the German wall.

NO GOAL!

thought they had taken an early lead via a Schlotterbeck header, but it is quickly ruled out by the referee for a foul.

Nagelsmann comments

"The group stage was very interesting for us, because the first game [5-1 win over Scotland] went better than we expected, then we had a complicated game against Hungary [2-0 win], and in the Switzerland game [1-1 draw] we struggled to score an equaliser, so we have dealt with all types of matches. It's important to get to learn how to overcome difficult situations."

Lineups for -Denmark

XI: Neuer, Kimmich, Rudiger, Schlotterbeck, Raum, Andrich, Kroos, Sane, Gundogan, Musiala, Havertz.

Denmark XI: Schmeichel, Andersen, Vestergaard, Christensen, Bah, Delaney, Hojbjerg, Maehle, Eriksen, Skov Olsen, Hojlund.

Full time: Switzerland 2-0 Italy

Switzerland are through to the quarter-finals after a dominant win over Italy.

The defending champions go out with a whimper, as they never tested Yann Sommer in the Switzerland goal.

Goals from Freuler and Vargas proved the difference, with Switzerland now set to face the winner of England-Slovakia.

Less than 20 minutes remaining

And so far it has been comfortable for Switzerland. Italy don't seem to have any response in them, as Sommer hasn't had to make any real saves so far this second half.

GOAL! Switzerland 2-0 Italy

That might be it for the Italians. They give it away right after the second half begins.

Vargas picks it up and sends a curling effort past a helpless Donnarumma.

Half-time: Switzerland 1-0 Italy

Freuler's goal is the difference at the break in an opening half that was dominated by the Swiss. Italy haven't had any chance of note, and are only down a goal thanks to their goalkeeper, Donnarumma.

Spalletti will have to make some changes at half-time or the defending champions are heading home.

Another great save from Donnarumma

Rieder tries to catch Donnarumma by firing a free kick to the near post, but the PSG goalkeeper gets there just in time and tips the ball onto the post.

GOAL! Switzerland 1-0 Italy

Ruben Vargas finds Remo Freuler in the middle, and the midfielder does well to control the ball before sending his shot into the bottom corner.

Remarkably, that's the fourth game in a row Italy have fallen behind.

Expert save from Donnarumma

What a save from Donnarumma! Embolo is played in on goal and is 1v1 vs Donnarumma.

The Swiss forward tries to curl his effort in, but Donnarumma stands tall to keep the match level.

Italy try from a set piece

Barella is back on the field for the Italians, and he shows his talent from a free kick. The Inter Milan star looks to pick out El Shaarawy, who flubs his kick.

It wouldn't have mattered either way though, as the linesman had raised his flag for offside.

Switzerland quick out of the gate

Switzerland showing more of an attacking threat so far, though neither side have been able to create any clear cut chances after the first 10 minutes of action.

And it looks as though Barella has picked up a knock. Not good news for the Italians.

Italy changes

There are some interesting calls from Spalletti here. Matteo Darmian is being used as a left-back it seems, whilst Nicolo Fagioli comes in for Jorginho. The Juventus man missed seven months of the season due to a gambling ban.

He has chosen Stephan El Shaarawy on the left-flank rather than starting Mattia Zaccagni, who got the important equalizer against Croatia last time.

The coach also needed to replace Riccardo Calafiori as he is suspended, and he has opted for Gianluca Mancini rather than Alessandro Buongiorno or Federico Gatti.

Lineups

The lineups are out for Switzerland vs Italy and there could be another change of shape from Spalletti here, potentially to a 4-3-3. It won't be clear until the game gets underway in Berlin.

Switzerland: Sommer, Akanji, Rodriguez, Schar, Freuler, Xhaka, Rieder, Aebischer, Embolo, Vargas, Ndoye.

Italy: Donnarumma; Di Lorenzo, Mancini, Bastoni, Darmian; Barella, Fagioli, Cristante; Chiesa, Scamacca, El Shaarawy.

Italy back at the Olympiastadion

Italy have some positive memories from playing at the Olympiastadion in Berlin, the current home of Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin. This is where Fabio Grosso scored the winning penalty to secure the 2006 World Cup against , with the defender having scored a crucial goal in the semi-final against .

Who is in the Euro 2024 round of 16?

Italy's group stage showing

Italy came into the tournament in the unusual situation of being the holders, but also not being one of the favorites to win. Luciano Spalletti's side were relatively impressive in their 2-1 win over Albania, but were then played off of the park by Spain in a 1-0 defeat.

The match against Croatia was not much better and Mattia Zaccagni's 98th-minute goal is the only reason that the Azzurri are still in the tournament.

Switzerland's group stage showing

Switzerland will be very pleased with how their group stage campaign panned out. They were in Group A with , Scotland and Hungary and got underway with a commanding 3-1 win over Hungary. Next came a 1-1 draw against Scotland, and then faced the hosts.

They were leading through a Dan Ndoye goal and were poised to finish top of the group, but Niclas Fullkrug's 92nd-minute goal meant finished top and Switzerland had to settle for second. What is clear is that, whilst a smaller name, they pose a serious threat to this Italian team.

More changes for Italy

Italy have not been able to settle on a formation or favored lineup so far at Euro 2024 and Luciano Spalletti looks set to make even more changes for this tough match against Switzerland.

A 4-3-3 could be in the offing, the formation he used at Napoli. That may mean that Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli gets some minutes as it is a shape that would suit him.

The games are back!

It's been a long two days without any Euro 2024 action after getting acclimatized to two/three games a day, but now the knockouts are here.

Switzerland vs Italy gets the Round of 16 underway at 18:00 CEST, and then the hosts take on Denmark with the whole nation watching in anticipation.

Gordon: England need to perform and give people what they want to see

England take on Slovakia on Sunday, with fans and pundits keen to see whether the Three Lions can improve after an underwhelming group stage.

Although Gareth Southgate's men finished top of Group C, they managed just one win and two goals. Their performances have attracted plenty of criticism, but Anthony Gordon says he isn't bothered by the comments.

"I don't really care about stuff like that, I actually think of it in a positive way," said Gordon.

"If people are being negative it's only because they expect a lot from you, which is a positive thing. If we want that to stop, we just need to perform and give people what they want to see."

Gordon only made his first appearance in the tournament in the final group match against Slovakia, but he made it clear he won't be demanding more minutes from Southgate.

"I just like to try my best and control the controllables," Gordon said.

"I think if I train to the very best of my ability, do the best I can every day, that's my way of giving him a headache in of selection, and the rest I can't control."

Sommer confident ahead of Italy clash

Switzerland goalkeeper Yann Sommer is confident his side has what it takes to eliminate reigning champions Italy on Saturday.

The 35-year-old, who plies his trade in Italy for Inter Milan, says the Swiss are thinking positive heading into the match

"The atmosphere in the squad is really excellent, we all have success in our minds. It's going to be a very important game and I am really happy to face Italy," said Sommer.

"We prepared for all the Italy strikers, I know them both. It is useful knowing the opponents, but I don't know if it'll be an advantage tomorrow. We are up against the reigning Champions of Europe, so they remain the favourites against us, but we are ready."

set to drop star for Denmark clash?

Reports are growing that coach Julian Nagelsmann is considering dropping Kai Havertz for Saturday's clash with Denmark.

The winner of the match will meet either Spain or Georgia in the quarter-finals, and the tactician is said to be contemplating making a big change to his starting XI before then.

Havertz could be dropped in favor of Niclas Fullkrug, who has scored twice off the bench so far this tournament.

There is also talk that Havertz and Fullkrug could start tighter, with Florian Wirtz dropped to the bench.

Time will tell what Nagelsmann does, with the match set to kick off at 21:00 local time.

Pepe still backing Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo still hasn't found the back of the net at Euro 2024, but that hasn't stopped compatriot Pepe from showing his for the legendary striker.

"Cristiano lives of goals, that's a fact," Pepe said in Friday's news conference. "But have you seen his availability on the pitch to help the national team? It's incredible. He's the player with the most minutes in our team, at 39 years old."

Portugal take on Slovenia on Monday, and Pepe expects the star man to show his worth once the whistle blows.

"He's doing very well," Pepe said of Ronaldo. "He'll do very well in the final stages of the European Championship. I'm certain he will give us a lot of joy."

Dimarco ruled out for Italy

Some big news ahead of Italy's match against Switzerland. Luciano Spalletti has rules out Inter fullback Federico Dimarco for the match.

He also stated that Alessandro Bastoni is being looked at, which puts his presence in doubt as well.

"Bastoni needs to be evaluated, he had a bit of training today, which allowed us to breathe a sigh of relief. Dimarco cannot recover, he is out. We will play with something that resembles a four-man defence, because we must try to be more attacking than what we've seen so far."

With rumors suggesting Fagioli will replace Jorginho in midfield, Spalletti's words suggested a change is coming.

"You have young talent pushing and we must create the space that they deserve. Fagioli has this natural, calm way of doing things, so seems perfectly suited to that role. It's just about having the courage to give him that space."

News out of the Spain camp

It looks as though Joselu is leaving Real Madrid. Fabrizio Romano reports that he has agreed to Al Gharafa on a permanent deal for 1.5 million euros. He will sign a two-year contract with an option for a third.

Real Madrid took to social media to say goodbye to the striker, who was instrumental in their Champions League semi-final comeback against Bayern Munich.

Italy considering a change in formation?

The round of 16 kicks off tomorrow with defending champions Italy taking on Switzerland. The Azzurri made it out of the group stage after a last-gasp goal by Mattia Zaccagni secured a 1-1 draw with Croatia, which was all Luciano Spalletti's men needed.

With Riccardo Calafiori suspended for tomorrow's match, reports out of the Italy camp suggest Italy could switch to a 4-3-3.

Italy's projected line-up: Donnarumma; Di Lorenzo, Mancini, Bastoni, Darmian; Barella, Fagioli, Cristante; Chiesa, Scamacca, El Shaarawy

Mikautadze the man to beat

There is a surprise name atop the goalscoring charts so far at Euro 2024. Georgia's Georges Mikautadze leads the way with three goals, and he'll get the chance to add to that tally on Sunday against Spain.

Behind him is a whole host of names on two goals, including Jamal Musiala and Cody Gakpo.

Full time: Czechia 1-1 Turkey | Georgia 2-0 Portugal

Georgia have done it! They are through to the round of 16! A stunning display against a rotated Portugal side, but take nothing away from Willy Sagnol's men, as they never let their guard down.

As for the other match, Barak's red card in the first half proved too much for Czechia to overcome. Although Soucek reignited their hopes and levelled the match, Tosun's late goal put the match to bed with Turkey finishing runners-up in the group and Czechia going home.

GOAL! Czechia 1-2 Turkey

No doubts now as Turkey will go through as runners-up in Group F. With Czechia pushing forward in hopes of a late winner, it's substitute Cenk Tosun who fires home into the bottom corner to send Turkey through to the round of 16 and eliminates Czechia.

Closing minutes

Less than five minutes remaining in both matches. Georgia look to be in control and heading for the knockout round, while Czechia are applying some late pressure as they look to complete an unlikely comeback.

Are we set for some late drama?

GOAL! Czechia 1-1 Turkey

Czechia are still alive as Soucek levels the score! Turkey felt their goalkeeper was fouled by Chory, but the referee disagrees as Soucek taps home to level the match. This match is wide open with just under 20 minutes remaining.

GOAL! Georgia 2-0 Portugal

The referee is called over to check an Antonio Silva foul on Luca Lochoshvili, and a penalty is given to Georgia.

Mikautadze steps up and makes no mistake, firing past Diogo Costa as Georgia look on course to pull off a stunning triumph.

GOAL! Czechia 0-1 Turkey

Stunning goal by Calhanoglu to give Turkey the lead. Turkey pile on the pressure, with Stanek pulling off a stunning save to deny Montella's men.

However, he can do nothing to deny Calhanoglu, who drills a stinging strike past the goalkeeper to put Turkey deservedly ahead. To add insult to injury, Stanek looks to have injured himself and is coming off.

As things stand, Turkey are second and Czechia are heading home

Half time: Czechia 0-0 Turkey | Georgia 1-0 Portugal

No goals in Hamburg, but the big talking point is that Czechia are down to 10-men after Barak was sent off for collecting two yellow cards. Not ideal given they need three points if they want to go through to the knockout stage.

In the other match it is Georgia who have the advantage thanks to Kvaratskhelia. It's an important goal against a rotated Portugal side, as Georgia currently sit third and would go through to the knockout stage.

Red card! Barak sent off for Czechia

After seeing yellow earlier, Barak is sent off after picking up another one. The Czechia player lunged for the ball and put his stand on the top of a Turkish foot.

Czechia need a win tonight to qualify for the knockout round, but their task has just become much more difficult.

GOAL! Georgia 1-0 Portugal

Antonio Silva gives the ball away near the halfway line and he is punished, as Georgia surge forward on the counter. It eventually falls to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who makes no mistake to put his side ahead.

If things stay like this, Georgia are through to the knockout stage.

Lineups for Czechia-Turkey

No Patrik Schick for Czechia as he is only fit enough to make the bench after coming off in the second half against Georgia. He is replaced by Mojmir Chitin.

As for Turkey, Mert Gunok returns in goal while Arda Guler is returned to the starting lineup after missing out for the defeat to Portugal

Czech Republic XI: Stanek, Holes, Hranac, Krejci, Coufal, Soucek, Provod, Jurasek, Barak, Chytil, Hlozek

Turkey XI: Gunok, Kadioglu, Demiral, Akaydin, Muldur, Ozcan, Yuksek, Yildiz, Calhanoglu, Guler, Yilmaz

Lineups for Georgia-Portugal

Georgia need a win today to reach the knockout stage and they have made four changes from the team that battled to a 1-1 draw with Czechia. Luca Lochoshvili, Giorgi Gvelesiani, Otar Kiteishvili and Girogi Chakvetadze are all in the starting XI

As for Portugal, they will finish as Group F winners. Roberto Martinez makes eight changes from the side that beat Turkey, but Cristiano Ronaldo remains in the starting line-up

Georgia XI: Mamardashvili, Dvali, Kashia, Lochoshvili, Kiteishvili, Kochorashvili, Gvelesiani, Kakabadze, Chakvetadze, Kvaratskhelia, Mikautadze.

Portugal XI: Costa, Danilo, A Silva, Inacio, Dalot, Felix, J Neves, Palhinha, Ronaldo, Neto, Conceicao.

Full time: Slovakia 1-1 Romania | Ukraine 0-0 Belgium

Big celebrations from the Romanian players, as they have won the group after holding Slovakia to a 1-1 draw. It means they are into the knockout stags of a major tournament for the first time since 2000. They are ed by Slovakia.

As for Ukraine, they are going home despite finishing on 4 points, while Belgium will take on in the last 16. Not a great performance from Domenico Tedesco's men, and their fans are letting them know at the final whistle.

Great defending by Faes

No goals in either game so far in the second half, which isn't good for Ukraine, as that means they are heading for elimination.

They show signs of life as Dovbyk heads in on goal in hopes of creating a scoring chance. However, Faes stands his ground to deny the Ukrainian as we approach the final 10 minutes of action.

Half time: Slovakia 1-1 Romania | Ukraine 0-0 Belgium

All the action has been in Frankfurt, with Marin levelling the match from the penalty spot after Duda's header gave Slovakia the lead after 24 minutes.

As for the other game, it's been anything but a classic as Belgium and Ukraine have been unable to find the back of the net.

As things stand Romania are on course to win the group, with Belgium second and Slovakia third....

GOAL! Slovakia 1-1 Romania

Ianis Hagi was convinced he was taken down in the penalty area, and a VAR check confirmed it.

Up steps Razvan Marin, who smashes home into the top left corner to level the scoreline. As things stand, both teams are going through to the knockout stage...

GOAL! Slovakia 1-0 Romania

Nothing spectacular from Slovakia, but it's worked as they take the lead thanks to Ondrej Duda. Deep cross from Pekarik finds the head of Duda, who sends his header across the face of goal and into the far corner.

That means Slovakia currently sit atop Group E, with Romania heading out of Euro 2024.

Slovakia vs Romania confirmed line-ups

Slovakia XI: Dubravka; Pekarik, Vavro, Skriniar, Hancko; Lobotka, Kucka, Duda, Schranz, Haraslin, Strelec.

Romania XI: Nita; Ratiu, Dragusin, Burca, Bancu; M. Marin; Hagi, R. Marin, Stanciu, Coman; Dragus.

Belgium vs Ukraine confirmed line-ups

Arsenal winger Leandro Trossard is back in the Belgium starting line-up after being benched for the win over Romania.

Ukraine XI: Trubin, Tymchyk, Zabarnyi, Svatok, Matviyenko, Shaparenko, Brazhko, Sudakov, Yaremchuk, Dovbyk.

Belgium XI: Casteels, Vertonghen, Faes, Theate, Castagne, De Bruyne, Onana, Tielemans, Doku, Trossard, Lukaku.

England fans unhappy with Southgate

It was another poor display from England last night, drawing 0-0 with Slovenia as they crawled over the group stage finish line. The fans have stuck by coach Gareth Southgate over the years, but their patience appears to be wearing thing, as a number of their ers hurled plastic cups at him as he applauded them after last night's draw.

Netherlands play friendly

Clearly not content with his side's 3-2 defeat to Austria, Ronald Koeman arranged a friendly for his Netherlands side against a German 4th tier side.

The Dutch side won 6-1.

Enthralling Group E

It may not have been the most glamorous group when the draw was made, but Group E has now appeared as the most exciting in the competition.

Slovakia, Belgium, Romania and Ukraine are all tied on three points ahead of today's action.

Welcome to today's Euro 2024 live blog!

ENGLAND 0-0 SLOVENIA | DENMARK 0-0 SERBIA

An evening that promised much, but delivered little. The closest England came to getting all three points was an offside goal, and a late Cole Palmer strike. It mattered not though, as the Three Lions topped Group C as Denmark were unable to beat Serbia, thus the Danes finish second.

Group 50

Former England defender Lee Dixon on ITV Sport: "When Palmer gets the ball, two players go to him. Not one standing in front of him stopping him making a . They know he's going to try and beat a player. Do that in different areas of the pitch and space starts opening up."

SUB

England make a substitution at half time with Conor Gallagher off for Kobbie Mainoo.

Former England defender Lee Dixon on ITV Sport: "Mainoo gives that level of control in midfield. He links up the play really well."

ENGLAND 0-0 SLOVENIA | DENMARK 0-0 SERBIA

Nothing much to report after the opening 45 minutes of the final Group C matches. Oblak has been solid in goal for Slovenia who have limited England's chances. Meanwhile, Denmark have struggled to breakdown a resolute Serbian defence. As it stands, England go through as group winners with the Dane second.

OFFSIDE

ENGLAND 0-0 SLOVENIA

Saka taps the ball into the back of the net sending England fans into rapture in the stands, but celebrations are short-lived as the assistant referee raises his flag as Foden was offside in the build up.

Group 50

Former England defender Lee Dixon on ITV Sport: "England will have a lot of the ball. They need a nice, quick start. "

Group 50

Ange Postecoglou on ITV Sport: "Bellingham loves to be purposeful without the ball. With Gallagher and Rice behind him in midfield, that should give him some impetus."

Marcel Sabitzer scored late for Austria to advance to the knockout stage of the European Championship as group winner with a 3-2 win over the Netherlands on Tuesday.

Just as things look like the they were going 's way, Robert Lewandowski's spot kick has condemned Mbappe and co to the tougher side of the draw. That coupled with Austria's win mean Ragnick's side topped Group D.

GOAL

NETHERLANDS 2-3 AUSTRIA

AMAZING! Austria are back in front! A precise through ball from Baumgartner finds Sabitzer who fires into the roof of the net from a tight angle.

GOAL

NETHERLANDS 2-2 AUSTRIA

It's all action in Group D. Weghorst makes an immediate impact after coming on and his header falls to Depay, who controls and volleys past Pentz.

Group 50

Former England defender Martin Keown on BBC Sport: "Mbappe looked so assured there when he came up to take that penalty. Never in doubt. He made it look so easy."

GOAL

1-0 POLAND

And we have the breakthrough. Mbappe scores his first ever European Championship goal and the first scored by a Frenchman at Euro 2024. Kiwior gives away the penalty and the Real Madrid striker sends Skorupski the wrong way to open the scoring.

GOAL

NETHERLANDS 1-1 AUSTRIA

And minutes after the break the Netherlands are level. Gakpo puts the ball past Pentz after a swift counter-attack led by Xavi Simons.

Group 50

Former Wales captain Ashley Williams on BBC Sport: "Austria started fast, as they normally do, they started really well. And the Netherlands have just been really subdued, like there's no energy about their performance. They're not getting high up the pitch, they're not pressing."

HALF TIME

Austria still lead the Netherlands in Berlin thanks to a Malen own goal. Austria deserve their lead with Koeman's men have done very little in the opening 45 minutes, and as things stands Austria go through as Group D winners.

and Poland are still level at 0-0 with both teams having good chances. Skorupski has denied Mbappe on a couple of occasions, while Lewandowski should have put the Pole ahead.

CHANCE

0-0 POLAND

The game is yet to get into gear but the best chance thus far has fallen to Poland as Lewandowski headed into the ground from a brilliant Zieliski cross. Poland should be ahead.

GOAL

Netherlands 0-1 Austria

vs Poland confirmed line-ups: Mbappe starts!

Kylian Mbappe is back in the Fench starting XI after missing the clash against the Netherlands with a broken nose. Barcola also starts ahead of Marcus Thuram.

Poland XI: Skorupski; Bednarek, Dawidowicz, Kiwior; Frankowski, Szymaski, Moder, Zieliski, Zalewski; Lewandowski, Urbaski.

Gallagher set to start

Southgate has faced heavy scrutiny for his team selections so far in this European Championship, and he seems to be ready to make a change, although perhaps not the most popular one.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has struggled in central midfield, is set to be replaced by Chelsea's Conor Gallagher. Declan Rice, who will most probably feature alongside him, has been full of praise for the midfielder.

How Group C stands

England know that a win against Slovenia would secure first place in Group C, although their underwhelming two displays so far in the competition mean that it's not a guarantee. Slovenia remain extremely motivated as a draw would leave them with a decent chance of qualifying as one of the best third-placed teams, and a win would see them through.

It's a similar situation in the other match, as Denmark would be through with a win, and a slip-up from England would see them go top. Meanwhile, Serbia need a win to ensure their place in the next round.

Zaccagni bends a brilliant ball from the right side of the box, past the goalkeeper and into the top corner. His first ever goal for the Azzurri! Croatia are on the verge of going out, after being on the verge of going through.

FULL TIME: ALBANIA 0-1 SPAIN

Spain make it three wins from three in the group stage and enter the knockout round as Group B winners. Ten changes were made for this evening's match by De la Fuente and Ferran made the difference to send Albania home.

Group 50

Wayne Rooney on BBC Sport: "I think Croatia will be happy with the game as it is and try to nick a goal towards the end."

CHANCE! ITALY 0-0 CROATIA

After a good spell of dominance at the start of the match, Croatia now find themselves under constant Italian pressure and have goalkeeper Livakovic to thank after Barella put in a beautiful ball into the back post to an unmarked Bastoni, but his header is pushed over the bar.

GOAL! ALBANIA 0-1 SPAIN

The first goal of the evening goes to Spain after Dani Olmo picked out a brilliant behind the defence for Ferran Torres, who opens his body well and side foots home, off the post. As it stands, Albania are out.

Group 50

Former Spain defender Carlos Marchena on RTVe: "Albania have kept to the same plan as they did in their first two matches, aiming to defend tightly as a collective and get out fast on the counterattack. Spain have to move the ball quickly to be able to overcome Albania's defensive framework."

Group 50

Group B

Potential permutations from tonight's games

Spain into the round of 16 as group winners.

Italy

- round of 16 as group runners-up if they avoid defeat against Croatia. - knocked out if they lose and Albania beat Spain.

Albania

- into round of 16 as group runners-up if they beat Spain and Croatia beat Italy providing Albania finish ahead of Croatia on overall goal difference or then overall goals scored, or then disciplinary points or then European Qualifiers rankings.

- Albania knocked out if they lose, or if they draw and Croatia beat Italy.

Croatia

- round of 16 as group runners-up if they beat Italy and Albania do not beat Spain

- if Albania also win, Croatia and Albania will be split for second and third place by the above criteria).

- Croatia are out if they lose, or if they draw and Albania avoid defeat.

Albania striker suspended for Spain clash

Albania will be without striker Mirlind Daku for the match against Spain. The Rubin Kazan player has been suspended for two matches for hateful chants against Serbia and North Macedonia following his team's 1-1 draw with Croatia on Wednesday.

The Serbian Football Association had threatened to quit the tournament if action was not taken and now, rightly, Daku will sit out the next two matches.

Spain players greet fans in Dusseldorf

The Spain team is well ed in , and a few of the squad went out to repay the fans by partaking in a 'meet and greet' with a number of young ers.

Barcelona's Ferran Torres, Chelsea's Marc Cucurella and Athletic Club's Dani Vivian spent the day chatting with fans, g shirts and taking pictures.

How Group B is shaping up

Spain's young guns have made a great start to the competition with two wins from two games, and that's before playing the group's lowest-ranked side in Albania, which comes tonight.

Luis de la Fuente's team will be aiming for another three points to make it a perfect group stage for La Roja, even if a draw would guarantee top spot.

For Croatia and Albania, they both know that a win is all but certainly required if they are to progress to the next phase while Italy, on three points, could be safe with a draw.

Today's Euro 2024 match schedule is as follows: Spain vs Albania and Croatia vs Italy. There is no early kick-off today, nor a 18:00 match. Both games kick off at 21:00.

That's where the blog ends for the evening, but we'll be back tomorrow as Group B comes to a close. us then and let's hope for more drama like tonight.

Take care, and we'll speak again in the morning!

GROUP A FINAL STANDINGS

1. - 7 pts (Through to Round of 16)

2. Switzerland - 5 pts (Through to Round of 16)

3. Hungary - 3 pts (May advance to Round of 16)

4. Scotland - 1 pt (Eliminated)

FULL TIME! SCOTLAND 0-1 HUNGARY!

Scotland will be packing their bags tonight, and Hungary might still be ing them. But the Hungarians have a chance at going through at least after that late winner.

UNBELIEVABLE! Scotland were pushing and pushing and pushing for a late winner, but it's Hungary who steal it and Scotland are going home!

GOAL! SWITZERLAND 1-1 !

A big header from the big man! Fullkrug puts back on top of Group A in the 92nd minute!

We've 85 minutes on the clock, but there will be a lot of stoppage time at the end here

Well, having seen a replay, it's hard to work out why Scotland weren't given a penalty there. If they don't find a late winner now...

Varga was the Hungarian player taken off after that very serious-looking incident. He is now of course off, and the game is underway again.

With all of the concern and uncertainty around what's happening to the Hungary player, there is a VAR potential penalty check required.

A serious incident in Scotland-Hungary

There seems to be quite a serious injury here. We're not seeing replays, but there's a bit of panic from the Hungary players and one of their players is down receiving treatment from a lot of medical staff.

Scotland's high point so far...

The game has lacked energy, but the pre-match atmosphere certainly didn't. Scotland fans have been great at this tournament, but like Ireland back in 2012 they must be getting sick of only being praised for having good .

That has the Swiss topping the group on seven points above 's six, as things stand.

GOAL! SWITZERLAND 1-0 !

Well, that's a surprise, the hosts are behind to a Dan Ndoye goal. The Bologna man is having a great summer!

We're focusing mostly on the Scotland game here today, with a lot more on the line. But we will of course provide updates from both fixtures.

are aiming for perfection

The hosts have won their opening two games rather comfortably but now face the group's second-placed team in Switzerland, who are not to be taken lightly. will be looking to secure another victory to make it three wins out of three and to secure first place that would land them a kinder tie in the next round.

Switzerland, thanks to their opening day win against Hungary and their draw with Scotland, are on four points and know that a draw would guarantee them second place, although a win over the Germans would see them leapfrog the hosts.

Scotland must win

There is no other option for Scotland tonight against Hungary. Steve Clark's side have one point (1-1 against Switzerland) after two points and sit in third place, ahead of their opponents Hungary who have yet to earn a point. Victory for the Tartan Army would all but secure their place in the next round.

For Hungary, the objective is the same, although their lack of points would not guarantee their age to the next round.

Mamardashvili catching the eye

Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is receiving plenty of praise and attention for his displays so far at the European Championship with Georgia. His side only managed a 1-1 draw with the Czech Republic on Saturday, but had it not been for his immense saves, things could have been far worse.

He tops the list of goalkeepers for shots saved so far in the tournament, with 15.

FULL-TIME: BELGIUM 2-0 ROMANIA!

It ends 2-0 to Belgium, meaning all three teams in Group E have three points with one round of games to spare. What a thrilling group!

GOAL! BELGIUM 2-0 ROMANIA!

... we think! De Bruyne this time, but it's being checked again... it's good! The goal stands!

NO GOAL! IT STAYS BELGIUM 1-0 ROMANIA!

Oh no, Rom... That's three goals he's had chalked off in two games now. You've got to feel sorry for Lukaku now. Again, that was so tight.

GOAL! BELGIUM 2-0 ROMANIA!

Romelu Lukaku gets his goal, and boy does he deserve one this tournament. Hard not to be happy for the big man!

GOAL! BELGIUM 1-0 ROMANIA!

Well, what a start from Belgium that is, with all the pressure on them. Lovely play finished by Tielemans on the edge of the box. A stunning team goal.

BELGIUM VS ROMANIA: TEAMS CONFIRMED

Belgium XI: Casteels; Theate, Faes, Vertonghen, Castagne; Tielemans, De Bruyne, Onana; Lukebakio, Lukaku, Doku.

Romania XI: Nita; Ratiu, Dragusin, Burca, Bancu; Marin, R.Marin, Stanciu, Man, Mihaila; Dragus.

GOAL! TURKEY 0-3 PORTUGAL

We can't believe our eyes! Through on goal, Cristiano Ronaldo squares to Bruno Fernandes who taps into an empty goal. The Portugal players appear just as shocked as we are that he didn't shoot himself there.

GOAL! TURKEY 0-2 PORTUGAL

We're not sure what's happened their, but Portugal somehow have a two-goal lead.

Oh, oh no. Oh good grief. Turkey have had a shocker there. A complete mix-up between their defence and goalkeeper ends up with a back towards an empty goal creeping over the line. That's the most comical own goal of a tournament that's been packed with them!

GOAL! TURKEY 0-1 PORTUGAL!

Turkey have been the better side so far, but they're behind. Bernardo Silva isn't the kind of player you can give an inch to around the box, but he was left unmarked in the area to sweep home after Cristiano Ronaldo curiously fell over himself without much reason.

Kick-off! Turkey 0-0 Portugal

We've been looking forward to this one, and the wait is over! Who are you backing for the day's middle game?

Portugal's confirmed XI: Ronaldo starts

One change from Roberto Martinez, as Palhinha comes in for Diogo Dalot. Cristiano Ronaldo leads the line up front.

Portugal XI: Diogo Costa, Cancelo, RĆŗben Dias, Pepe, Nuno Mendes, Palhinha, Vitinha, Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Leao, Ronaldo

Turkey's confirmed XI: Arda Guler and Kenan Yildiz BENCHED!

Arda Guler has been benched for Turkey's game against Portugal, which comes as a major surprise given his starring role against Georgia. Coach Vincenzo Montella did mention in his pre-match press conference that he had been suffering from some fatigue.

Turkey XI: Bayindir; Celik, Akaydin, Bardakci, Kadioglu; Kokcu, Calhanoglu, Ayhan; Akgun, Yilmaz, Akturkoglu

Arda Guler's chance to shine again

After his incredible strike to put Turkey 2-1 ahead against Georgia last time out, all eyes will once again be on Real Madrid's Arda Guler as his side take on Portugal.

Can the youngster back up his opening display with another against the group favourites Portugal?

FULL TIME

It was a game that both sides felt they could have, and possible had to have, won. But they both instead have to settle for a point each after a thrilling 1-1 draw. Georgia and Czech Republic have a chance to qualify in their remaining match but will be regretting missed chances at both ends.

90+5

What a chance to win it!

As both teams chase the win in the final moments, Georgia counter with a 3-on-1 situation. Lobjanidze is played in on goal but he blazes over the bar from close range! The final whistle blows immediately after. Unbelievable drama.

59

GOAL - CZECH REPUBLIC!

Georgia are instantly punished for their recent miss, as Czech Republic level the game. Schick hits the post from a header but the rebound falls back in his path and he could not miss from a few yards out. 1-1.

57

Golden chance missed by Georgia!

Kvaratskhelia leads a spectacular breakaway from inside his own half, before setting up Mekvabishvili but the 23-year-old sends the ball just wide.

53

Kvaratskhelia causing problems

Kvaratskhelia is causing constant problems to the Czech side with his pace and dribbling. Holes goes into the book for a cynical trip on the Napoli star.

Second half underway

Can Georgia hold on for their first ever European Championship win? Or can Czech get back in the game and boost their hopes of qualification?

HALF TIME: Georgia 1-0 Czech Republic

Georgia go into the break a goal ahead thanks to a Mikautadze penalty at the end of the half. It's been a frantic game so far, with decent chances for both sides but it's the tournament debutants who have the advantage.

45+5

Great save by Mamardashvili!

Czech Republic so nearly level the score just after going behind, but Mamardashvili makes a fine stop to deny Schick's strike.

45+2

GOAL - GEORGIA!

Georgia take the lead just before the break from the spot! VAR intervened to award a penalty to Georgia after a handball in the box from Hranac. Mikautadze stepped up and, with great composure, sent the ball into the back of the net. 1-0 to Georgia.

22

Goal disallowed

Replays showed that the ball touched Hlozek's arm on the way in and, after a VAR intervention, the goal is ruled out. Correct decision. Still 0-0.

22

GOAL - CZECH REPUBLIC

The ball falls kindly to Hlozek who then prods the ball towards goal. Valencia's Mamardashvili saves it but the ball rebounds back onto the Czech's head and it goes in!

10

Big penalty appeal!

Davitashvili bursts past Krejcl down the right hand side before entering the area. The Czech defender appears to pull him back but nothing is given.

Group 50

Christophe Dugarry on M6: "Chances should have paid off tonight for . I'd like to single out the performance of N'Golo KantƩ. Outstanding! Adrien Rabiot also shone in midfield in my opinion."

STAT

The last 0-0 draw at the Euros came in the 2020 tournament when Scotland took on England, a whole 50 games ago.

FULL TIME: NETHERLANDS 0-0

In a match with plenty of chances for both sides neither could break the deadlock with the Netherlands coming closest as they had a goal disallowed by VAR. In the opening half Rabiot should have put ahead after he found himself in on goal. Nevertheless, the draw sees both sides are all but into the last 16 of Euro 2024 with the first 0-0 draw in the tournament.

GOAL DISALLOWED! NETHERLANDS 0-0

HALF TIME: NETHERLANDS 0-0

The first half exceeded expectations. After a frenetic start, has adapted to their new system and looked increasingly dangerous in attack. Griezmann, playing as a traditional playmaker, was orchestrating their moves. However, gaps in the midfield emerged

The Dutch, overall, handled the French attacks irably. Van Dijk was as dominant as ever, with Reijnders, Schouten, and even Gakpo contributing defensively. The Netherlands mounted several promising attacks but have yet to find the decisive final ball or finishing touch.

Group 50

Cesc Fabregas on BBC Sport: "The Netherlands have very agile players. They are fast and they try to attack the space. Collectively they are a very good team. Technically they are gifted, so they can cause problems."

NETHERLANDS 0-0

An electric start to the match with having much the better chances with a scramble in the six yard box bringing audible gasps from the crowd as Rabiot and Griezmann both miss the opportunity to put ahead.

Group 50

Wayne Rooney on BBC Sport: "The Netherlands have a good balance to their starting team. They have a very strong spine; I think that's very important. This will be a test for them tonight, though."

Group 50

Christophe Dugarry on M6: "This team looks great on paper. It's going to be an intriguing match. We're expecting this team to build from their first game and, above all, improve. They have everything they need to do that!"

Mbappe is fit to play, but is only on the bench and has a new mark which has been approved by UEFA.

Spain beats Italy 1-0 and advances to knockout round

Spain advanced to the round of 16 at Euro 2024 after a 1-0 win against defending champion Italy on Thursday.

A 55th-minute own goal by Italy's Riccardo Calafiori handed victory to Spain in the first clash of international heavyweights at this European Championship.

Three-time winner Spain totally dominated the Group B game at the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, with 16-year-old winger Lamine Yamal further enhancing his reputation as one of soccer's most exciting young stars with an outstanding performance.

Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma kept the score down with a string of fine saves until inadvertently pushing the ball into the legs of Calafiori, who couldn't prevent it from ricocheting into his own goal.

FULL TIME: SPAIN 1-0 ITALY

Spain delivered a bold and aggressive performance, captivating fans with their play. Pedri was exceptional, Nico Williams was unstoppable but their finishing let them down. Italy was lucky to lose by just one goal, struggling to compete with Spain. Donnarumma's excellent saves prevented a more significant defeat. Spain secured a well-deserved victory and top spot in the group. Italy now needs to avoid defeat against Croatia to advance to the Round of 16

CROSSBAR! SPAIN 1-0 ITALY

Nico Williams is having a sensational match and hits the crossbar. He cuts in from the left and hits a wonderful strike from just inside the penalty area which rattles the woodwork.

GOAL! SPAIN 1-0 ITALY

Spain were in total control in the second half and 10 minutes in they are ahead through a Calafiori own goal. Nico Williams crossed and Morata's flicked header bounces off Calafiori's knee and into the empty net. Nothing short of what Spain have deserved.

Group 50

Former England defender Gary Neville on ITV Sport: "Spain have been really good and it's been tough going for Italy. They've hung in there, mainly through their goalkeeper and also Spain missing some chances. Spain have a really good balance to them - they're so smooth going through the middle of the park, they have electricity in those wide areas and they should be a little bit more ruthless. They just need to get that bit right."

Group 50

Giuseppe Bergomi on Sky Sport: "I think even in Spalletti's mind, there was a different game and a different outcome, but you have to give the Spanish team credit: in this first half, they had great possession and showed great quality."

HALF TIME: SPAIN 0-0 ITALY

Despite Italy's efforts and threats, Spain has been more effective and fluid. Donnarumma's two crucial saves kept the Azzurri in the game. A superb 45 minutes from La Roja.

Italy didn't perform as expected in the first half, and often ceded possession to Spain without pressing and struggled to maintain control, resorting to long balls to Scamacca, which the Spanish defenders easily handled. Currently, Donnarumma's saves and individual defensive efforts are keeping Italy in the match.

Group 50

Former Spain midfielder Mario Suarez on RTVe: "Spain have started the match very well. They are moving the ball with purpose. They have to be careful, though, with the balls behind their defence."

SPAIN 0-0 ITALY

A brilliant start for Spain! Williams delivers a perfect cross to Pedri, whose header is soaring in until Donnarumma tips it away for a corner with a great save. Morata's ball to Williams is tremendous, whipped in with pace, but it flashes wide of the post from close range. Another cross from the left leads to another dangerous header. Italy is taking too many risks, relying on Spain's forwards to continue missing these opportunities.

Group 50

Former England defender on ITV: "What we're seeing from Yamal, a 16-year-old, you have to go on about it. To be at the level he's at, at the age he is at, is phenomenal. If you're going to double up on him, you can't ignore Williams and what he's doing. You can't double up on both of them."

England fails to convince in 1-1 draw with Denmark

England was far from convincing in a 1-1 draw with Denmark on Thursday even if it likely ensured advancing to the round of 16 at the European Championship.

Harry Kane gave England another fast start at Euro 2024, scoring it the 18th minute, but the captain was substituted off in the second half as the team faded.

Denmark leveled in the 34th when Morten Hjulmand fired in a powerful low shot from long distance, after Kane gave away the ball in defense

FULL TIME: DENMARK 1-1 ENGLAND

Denmark fought back to level the game after falling behind. Coach Hjulmand's energetic substitutions kept the match even until the end, with a 1-1 draw being a fair outcome. Denmark will face Serbia in their final Group C match to compete for a spot in the round of 16.

The second half was much improved, but England still struggled with the same issue from the Serbia game: a ive approach after a strong start, allowing opponents back in. Southgate will be pleased with Foden's increased influence and the energy brought by attacking substitutes. The Three Lions remain in control of the group.

POST! DENMARK 1-1 ENGLAND

England have struggled to create any chances in the second half, but then Foden drills a ball from 25 yards out and it smacks the post.

Group 50

Former England defender Micah Richards on BBC Sport: "It's the same problem as in the second half against Serbia. When we try to break on the transition, Kane is too deep. [Ollie] Watkins needs to come on and stretch the game."

HALF TIME: DENMARK 1-1 ENGLAND

After a shaky start, Denmark gained confidence and started creating opportunities. Hjulmand's well-deserved equalizer set the stage for a tense second half. Although the score is tied, Denmark dominated in territory and chances. England must play faster and exploit the space behind Denmark's wing-backs, instead of letting them settle. Foden has been a bright spot, becoming more influential in his key positions

GOAL! DENMARK 1-1 ENGLAND

What a strike from Hjulmand!! Just after the half hour and after a misplaced Kane , Hjulmand found himself in plenty of space and he fired in from 25 yards out, with the ball striking the post before crossing the line.

GOAL! DENMARK 0-1 ENGLAND

It's taken less than 20 minutes for England to take the lead and it's captain Harry Kane who opens the scoring with his first goal of Euro 2024. Brilliant work from Kyle Walker saw the defender nick the ball from Kristiansen and drive into the box, as his cross ricocheted into the path of Kane who tapped hime from close range.

Former England defender Micah Richards on BBC Sport: "If England give Christian Eriksen time and space today then he can still hurt you. We saw him score against Slovenia, a lovely run into the box, chest control and quick finish, it was a great moment for him. My moment of the tournament."

Georgia boss calls for focus

Georgia are set to play their first ever match at a major tournament, and coach Willy Sagnol has called for "focus" ahead of the game with Turkey.

"For some players after the March play-offs it has been a bit difficult to get back into their daily routine because they have lots of emotions and they had a feeling they were living a dream but the dream has to stop at some point and they have to focus again," he said in a pre-match press conference.

"It's something we talked about with the players at the start of the camp. At the beginning of the camp it was difficult but now the players are ready for the competition and focus on their performance and their discipline."

Mbappe could miss next two matches

and Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe was dealt a huge blow in last night's 1-0 win over Austria as he suffered a broken nose which puts his availability in doubt for the remaining two group matches. But French Football Federation president Philippe Diallo was more positive in a press conference earlier today.

"As you have seen, Kylian had this injury on the nose yesterday. The latest news is reassuring where there is no short-term operation needed, which was expected.

"Concerning his availability for the rest of the tournament, it's a little early to give you a schedule and we will wait for the final verdict from the doctors' tests this morning.

"Everyone came back a bit late last night so we will wait for later in the day to see how it evolves but I will reiterate, the latest news is positive due to him not needing an operation. Him having his tournament taken away from him is not the case."

Arda Guler ready to realise a dream

He may not be the most experienced, but Arda Guler is certainly among the most talented amongst the Turkey squad. After winning LaLiga and the Champions League with Real Madrid, the youngster is ready to realise his dream of playing for his country in a major tournament, something that he has alluded to with his latest post on social media, an animation of a young Guler going from watching his country to playing for them.

Unwanted talk ahead of Georgia's opener

As Georgia gear up for their historic first ever match at a major tournament, their star player is at the centre of a war of words between his agent and his club.

The agent of Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia claims that his client is ready to leave for a Champions League club this summer, despite having a long-term contract with the side.

All eyes on Cristiano

Portugal kick off their EURO 2024 campaign tonight (21:00 CEST) against Czech Republic with all eyes on Cristiano Ronaldo who is set to play in his sixth European Championship. The veteran may no longer be in his prime, but thankfully for him and his nation, there is a host of talent to help him on his journey.

The likes of Vitinha, Bernardo Silva and Bruno Fernandes are all raring to go ahead of their opening match.

Welcome to today's Euro 2024 live blog!

Today's Euro 2024 match schedule is as follows: Turkey vs Georgia, and Portugal vs Czech Republic. Sadly, there is no early kick-off today, those will resume from tomorrow.

Max Wober's first half own goal proved to be the only scoring on the night, as the defender got his header all wrong and sent it into the back of the net.

Austria still in this one

have had the better chances so far, but they still only have the one goal advantage. Can Austria find a late equalizer?

Disbelief as Mbappe misses a glorious chance!

That is a shocking miss from Mbappe. After winning the ball about 50 yards away from goal, he uses his speed to leave the Austrian defender in his dust.

However, with just the goalkeeper to beat, Mbappe curls the ball wide of the mark. Wow.

Half-time: Austria 0-1

It's who find themselves ahead after 45 minutes. Didier Deschamps' men have looked the more dangerous side so far, but they needed a Max Wober own-goal to go ahead.

Austria will certainly be wondering what might have been as Baumgartner has a great chance to open the scoring, only for Maignan to deny him from close range.

Credit to Austria though, as they've managed to keep the French from scoring early.

NO GOAL! Belgium 0-1 Slovakia

It seems like it's one of those days for Belgium and Lukaku. The striker thought he had levelled the match after smashing home Openda's ball from the left.

However, replays showed Openda handled the ball while battling with a Slovakian defender, which means Slovakia are still ahead.

Belgium goal ruled off

Tough day for Romelu Lukaku continues. From a short corner, Onana heads the ball across the face of goal onto the feet of Lukaku, who taps it home. Unfortunately for the striker, VAR rules it off after he was judged to be in an offside position.

Half-time: Belgium 0-1 Slovakia

It's Slovakia who head into the break with the shock lead thanks to Schranz's goal after seven minutes. The goal came after some early chances for Belgium, but they were made to pay for their wastefulness. Their struggles continued after that, with Lukaku's heavy touch wasting a golden chance to level the score just before half-time.

Lukaku's poor touch wastes golden chance

After Casteels dove to his left to expertly deny Haraslin, Belgium will be wondering how they aren't level after seeing Lukaku wasted a golden opportunity.

Carrasco's ball over the top sent Lukaku in on goal with the Slovakia defence behind him, but a heavy touch sees the ball go harmlessly wide with just the goalkeeper to beat.

GOAL! Belgium 0-1 Slovakia

Slovakia have taken the shock early lead against the run of play. After Belgium saw two great chances go to waste, once of which saw Dubravka deny Lukaku from close range, it's Slovakia who open the scoring in Frankfurt.

Belgium tried to play it out from the back, but Doku gave the ball away too easily. Casteels stopped the first shot, but the rebound fell to Schranz, who converted the rebound from close range.

Lukaku looking for more Belgium goals

Romelu Lukaku has had a nomadic club career and never quite looks settled, but he is consistently dangerous for Belgium. The Chelsea man scored 14 goals during their qualifying campaign and Domenico Tedesco will be relying on him for goals here, especially with Kevin De Bruyne supplying him.

GOAL! Romania 3-0 Ukraine

They're running riot now. The ball is worked excellently into the box by Dennis Man who has been impressive and he played it across for Denis Dragus to score. Still half an hour to go but Romania look home and hosed.

GOAL! Romania 2-0 Ukraine

Romania have doubled their lead less than 10 minutes into the second half. The ball broke on the edge for Razvan Marin who's low shot found the bottom corner. Andriy Lunin perhaps could have done better here, although he definitely saw it late.

Half-time: Romania 1-0 Ukraine

A very entertaining half with two sides who can clearly play ends 1-0 to Romania. They have been dominant since getting the goal from Stanciu and could be leading by more.

Romania take the lead through a stunning finish. Real Madrid's Andriy Lunin hit his clearance straight at Dennis Man who played it left to Nicolae Stanciu who fired into the top corner from the edge of the box. Pandemonium in the stands.

Open start from both sides

Ukraine have had the better of the play so far but both sides look willing to attack, meaning we could be in for another open game like many of the others in the tournament so far.

How did Romania and Ukraine qualify?

Romania had a particularly impressive qualification campaign as they topped a group that contained Switzerland, Israel, Belarus, Kosovo and Andorra.

As for Ukraine, they had a much tougher group with England, Italy, North Macedonia and Malta. The finished third, meaning they had to overcome Iceland in a play-off to make the tournament. Considering they have not played a home game in their own country for over two years, the fact they are here is an immense triumph.

A big occasion for Ukraine

Ukraine's time on the football pitch is always shrouded by the war in their country, with Russia launching an invasion in early 2022. With that war still very much active, coach Serhiy Rebrov has spoken about how it impacts his team.

"All the players, me personally, are getting lots of messages from our fighters, from our soldiers, from our friends who are now fighting for the freedom of Ukraine," said Rebrov.

"I am sure they are very proud of us; we are very proud of them. They are saying, when you are here 'show the spirit of Ukraine'. This tournament is really about the spirit of our country.

"It is very good and very important for Ukraine to be in this stage. Because all Ukrainians want to be a European nation.

"Of course now in our country, football is not in first place. There are lots of people dead, lots of kids dead. Now is a very difficult time for Ukraine.

"We want to remind people the war is continuing. We still need to continue to fight for our freedom."

Former England striker Alan Shearer on BBC Sport: "England had to defend really, really deep during the second half. The most important thing is that they've got the victory. Jude Bellingham was superb."

FULL TIME: SERBIA 0-1 ENGLAND

England were made to work for the three points in their opening Euro 2024 match against Serbia. Nevertheless, England were forced into some last ditch defending in the second half and had Pickford to thank on a couple of occasions.

CLOSE! SERBIA 0-1 ENGLAND

Eriksen scores in Denmark's 1-1 draw with Slovenia at Euro 2024, 3 years after his onfield collapse

For Christian Eriksen, Denmark's opening game at the European Championship was a much happier occasion this time.

The Manchester United midfielder scored the opening goal in a 1-1 draw with Slovenia on Sunday. It was his first match at the Euros since suffering a cardiac arrest in Denmark's opener in the previous edition of the tournament in 2021.

Eriksen neatly slotted a finish into the corner in the 17th minute of the Group C game in Stuttgart.

Erik Janza equalized for Slovenia in the 77th with a shot that took a big deflection and span beyond Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

FULL TIME: SLOVENIA 1-1 DENMARK

A tough game for both sides and a just result. Denmark had the better of the opening 45 minutes, but Slovenia held their own well and came into things in the second half. Denmark, who were strong favorites going into the game, will be more disappointed with the pressure now on.

GOAL! SLOVENIA 1-1 DENMARK

Denmark were given a warning moments earlier when Sesko smashed the post from the edge of the area. Then Erik Janza drove the ball home from 20 yards out, with the help of a slight deflection off Hjulmand which wrong-footed Schmeichel.

HALF TIME: SLOVENIA 0-1 DENMARK

A deserved lead for the Danes at the break and a worthy goalscorer in Eriksen. Seiko and Sporar could've levelled things for Slovenia, who looked dangerous as the half wore on.

GOAL! SLOVENIA 0-1 DENMARK

After dominating the first 17 minutes of the game, Denmark make the breakthrough and of course it is Eriksen who scores for the Danes. The Manchester United midfielder gets on the end of a Wind flick on from a throw, takes a touch with his chest and pokes home from close range.

It should have been more smooth sailing for the Dutch, but they got the job done to take their three points in the end. They could have been out of sight early on, but they had to come from behind and really scrap for that win.

They've got their goal! Netherland have surely stolen it late on! It's Weghorst!

Football's a funny game. Poland could have been three behind before they went ahead, and now they're going in at the break level. They'll be happy to not be behind and Netherlands will be expecting to make some of their chances count in the second half.

Might the Dutch go on to regret their misses?

GOAL! POLAND 1-1 NETHERLANDS!

It's all level! Gakpo's shot from range takes a wicked deflection and wrongfoots Szczesny in goal!

Denzel Dumfries will be having questions asked of him at half time... why couldn't he have headed that away!?

GOAL! POLAND 1-0 NETHERLANDS!

Completely against the run of play, Poland take the lead! All it took was a corner whipped into the box and Buksa met it at the near post to turn it home.

KICK OFF: Poland vs Netherlands underway!
