Terence Crawford's fight against Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez on September 13 in Las Vegas is shaping up to be a fight that will drive boxing fans crazy and, according to Bud, could become the most watched PPV fight in history.
Crawford is currently on tour in Australia and during an interview with Fox Sports he commented on the $200 million showdown between Crawford and Canelo, which for now, Bud himself has already confirmed will take place in Las Vegas
A few days ago, Richard Schaefer, Canelo's commercial representative, told The Ring that the fight against Crawford could sur the records and expectations achieved by the fight in which Floyd Mayweather defeated Manny Pacquiao in 2015: "I've been involved (in boxing) for 25 years and I don't any bigger fight than Canelo-Crawford. It will be the biggest fight in this sport that I can ."
Crawford aims to sur Mayweather-Pacquiao numbers
During the interview, Crawford agreed with Schaefer's opinion and felt that something historic is in the offing in the fight against Canelo, although it will also depend on the level of honesty of the fans.
"I feel like if it is successful and gets the of the fans, it could definitely achieve the big numbers needed to sur the big Mayweather-Pacquiao fight," Crawford said, before adding with a laugh, "It depends on how many people want to steal it through piracy."
For Oscar de la Hoya, a victory over Canelo would make him the greatest boxer of all time, as he would be the first in the four-belt era to be undisputed in three categories, an opinion that Crawford takes with humility.
"It makes me feel good because I've worked hard in this sport for a long time. So to get what I deserve would be a beautiful thing," Bud Crawford replied, before revealing that for him, boxing's GOAT is Muhammad Ali.
