Jake Paul drags Gervonta Davis' prestige: "I never thought Tank was that good"

The YouTuber-turned-boxer lashes out at Tank Davis amid complications in negotiations to face him in an exhibition fight

Jake Paul's participation in boxing has gone from criticism to the interest of many fighters to face him, because of the purses he is able to generate, after the success of his previous fight against Mike Tyson, and after getting into the ring against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, on June 28, 2025, next on the list is Gervonta Davis, although negotiations have stalled.

Even 'The Problem Child' had an agreement in place to face Canelo Alvarez, but it had to be cancelled after the Mexican signed a four-fight deal with His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, so he continued with the proposal of Tank Davis, a fight that was only authorised as an exhibition for November, but it was complicated after the difficulties he showed when facing Lamont Roach Jr., which forced him to agree to a rematch on August 16 in Las Vegas.

After the controversial majority decision draw that Davis achieved, after he should have lost after kneeling in the ninth round, Jake Paul confessed in an interview with Ariel Helwani that he was not surprised by the flaws that Tank has.

"I never thought Tank was that good. To be honest, it would just take the right boxer to tear him apart," Jake Paul said in the interview, adding: "Someone very active and not afraid of his power."

For the YouTuber-turned-boxer, given the obvious flaws he has detected in Gervonta Davis' boxing, it was not surprising that Lamont Roach Jr. did a good job of nullifying him, while if their fight is finalized, it would be a 10-round, three-minute exhibition, because he added that "we couldn't get it professionally approved."

If it does come to fruition, there are already voices opposed to it, one of them being Shakur Stevenson, who has been looking to face Gervonta Davis and considers it a disrespect to boxing.

"Tank disrespects the sport if he chose to fight Jake Paul instead of me," Stevenson told Fight Hub TV. "I'm the best boxer in the sport. I've been telling him, he said it wasn't my fault. So if he said it wasn't my fault and he wants to say I'm not who I say I am, come prove it."
