Slovakia's group stage

Slovakia found themselves in what proved to be the most exciting group of them all. Every team finished on four points and Calzona's side ended up in third, meaning they face a group winner. The headline for Slovakia is that they beat Belgium 1-0 in their opening game which was very unexpected.

The next game saw them lose 2-1 against Ukraine after taking the lead, but a draw against Romania was enough to secure safe age into this tie. Clearly, a win would have seen them top the group.

The headline for England is that Kobbie Mainoo makes his first start of the tournament. The 19-year-old impressed when he came on against Slovenia and he takes the place of Conor Gallagher. Beyond that, England are unchanged. Slovakia are unchanged from their final group game.

England's path to the last 16

England were drawn in a group with Denmark, Slovenia and Serbia. The campaign got underway against Serbia and after an early Jude Bellingham goal, the display got more and more stale but they did win 1-0.

They started well against Denmark too, with Harry Kane scoring, but a superb Morten Hjulmand strike and then a terrible rest of the match meant that England had work to do in the final game to assure top spot in the group. They only managed a 0-0 draw with Slovenia but still finished top thanks to other results.

Winning the group was always the aim, but England would have expected to score a lot more goals than two.
