Thirty-two sports and 48 disciplines will take place in 39 venues spread across 16 cities in metropolitan and one overseas community. Surfing will be held at Teahupo'o, a reef in Tahiti, French Polynesia. It will be the event to be held furthest from an Olympic venue: it is more than 15,700 kilometres from Paris. This wave, which can reach five metres in height, has seen Kelly Slater win the World Tour event held in its waters five times.
As host city, Paris is at the top of the podium with 15 Olympic venues for the 2024 Games (21 sports). In addition to the existing venues - the Parc des Princes (football), the Arena Bercy (basketball finals, artistic gymnastics, trampoline) and Roland Garros (tennis and boxing) - new facilities are planned, such as the Arena Porte de la Chapelle, an eco-designed venue with 80% green surfaces and bio-based materials (bton, rhythmic gymnastics).
Marseille , where the Olympic torch relay will begin in , will host the men's (the inaugural one with as host) and women's football matches at the Orange Velodrome, which will be called the Stade de Marseille during the Games, and the sailing competition. A well-oriented coastline, without currents or tides, with a fairly constant wind will host the 10 classes and the debut of iQFOil and Formula Kite. Some 330 competitors from 40 countries will set off from the redeveloped marina of Roucas-Blanc.
Football matches will be played not only in Marseille, but also in Bordeaux , Nantes , Lyon , Saint-Etienne and Nice .
Lille will host the preliminary rounds of basketball and the men's and women's handball competitions.
