The bad news has not stopped for the San Francisco 49ers. Following this weekend's loss to the Buffalo Bills, it was revealed that the team would be losing Christian McCaffrey and on Tuesday he was officially places on Injured Reserve.

McCaffrey, who was absent due to injury for the first eight weeks, was looking for his best performance to be able to help his team, however, an injury to his right knee made him leave the game in Buffalo.

But that was not all, as the team will also be waiving the services of backup running back Jordan Mason as he suffered a sprained ankle in the same game. The Niners claimed running back Israel Abanikanda off waivers from the New York Jets.

The injuries were confirmed by the team's head coach Kyle Shanahan, who regretted the particular case of McCaffrey, due to his past discomforts that have kept him out of activity for a long time.

"I feel sorry for him. It was a really frustrating year for him. He worked very hard to get back to this point and I think he felt very good and ready to take off. He suffered a really unfortunate injury last night. I know he's as broken as anyone, but he'll get through this," the coach said.

Everything seems to indicate that, due to their injuries, both McCaffrey and Mason will be out of activity for the remainder of 2024 considering the team's path to the playoffs is complicated. Isaac Guerendo and Patrick Taylor Jr. would be the new running backs for the 49ers for the remainder of the season, alongside Israel Abanikanda.
