As the Cleveland Browns gear up for the 2025 season following a disappointing 3-14 record in 2024, their quarterback situation remains a focal point of scrutiny - particularly surrounding Shedeur Sanders-who has sparked considerable debate.

The 23-year-old was picked 144th in the 2025 NFL Draft, despite being tipped as a likely first rounder as teams seemed to snub the Colorado Buffaloes graduate for a plethora of reasons related to on-field and off-field tendencies.

Eventually going in the fifth round, the Browns had even picked Dillon Gabriel ahead of him as he s a crowded quarterback room that also includes the injured Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett.

They're looking to turn their fortunes around at the Huntington Bank Field and now there is a race to see who can land the gig at the team, and Sanders is so far impressive through the minicamps and OTAs, particularly when it comes to his personality.

So on Wednesday, June 4, the former NFL quarterback, Robert Griffin III, voiced strong for the youngster after evaluating his game tape with the Browns and ripped into other teams for overlooking him.

"When you watch all the clips of Shedeur Sanders," Griffin III posted to X.com, formerly Twitter. "yYu see why his tape said he was a 1st Round QB.

"He plays with NFL timing and rhythm, reads with his feet, plays ahead of the defense, has more than enough arm strength and he knows how to layer the ball."

Sanders' college pedigree: Talent or hype?

The comment will make his father, Deion Sanders, a very happy man after ing his kid through a collegiate career that began at Jackson State (2021-22), before transferring to Colorado for 2023.

His accomplishments at Jackson State were remarkable: he threw for 6963 yards and 70 touchdowns with a completion rate of 70.6% as a sophomore, earning accolades such as the Jerry Rice Award, Deacon Jones Trophy, and SWAC Freshman and Offensive Player of the Year.

And for the Buffaloes, he maintained his elite performance with 7364 ing yards and 64 touchdowns as he helped turn the football program around and eventually led them to the Alamo Bowl.

His excellence earned him the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year award and the 2024 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, before he turned his attention to the 2025 NFL Draft and the professional game.

Despite displaying exceptional arm strength, timing, and poise, all attributes Griffin highlighted, Shedeur's draft stock plummeted due to off-field distractions and mixed pre-draft evaluations - but that is not a reflection of his talent.

He's now competing for the starting spot against Flacco, Pickett and Gabriel and it seems there's all to play for at Kevin Stefanski's team, so will he be the one taking the first snaps of the season when the Cleveland Browns face the Cincinnati Bengals on home turf in Week 1?
