George Kittle shed almost 30 pounds after Super Bowl
Kittle suffered an A/C t separation on his right shoulder during the 49ers' losing effort at Super Bowl LVIII in February.
The injury required surgery and prevented him from working out for an extended period, leading to a substantial drop in his weight.
"214 pounds, it was really fun,"Kittle said with his characteristic humor.
"It was awesome. My wife was like, 'What are you right now?' I was like, 'Thanks, sweetie. I feel great about myself right now.'"
Typically playing the season around 242 to 245 pounds, Kittle's weight dropped to 214 pounds post-surgery.
However, he has since regained the lost weight and feels ready for training camp.
"I got it back up to 243 this past week so I was excited about that. Weight's all back," he shared.
"It was kind of an odd offseason because I couldn't train the way I usually train. A lot of it was recovery."
Despite the weight fluctuations, Kittle remains in high spirits as he enters his eighth NFL training camp.
He explained that he tends to lose weight quickly when not working out regularly.
"I've always said if I'm not working out, I lose weight pretty fast,"Kittle noted.
"I had the [AC t] thing with my shoulder from the Super Bowl. Then from the surgery, I couldn't really do any type of lifting. So, basically, I didn't really do a lot for seven weeks, so I lost a lot of weight."
Once he was able to return to the gym, Kittle's weight began to increase steadily.
"After I got back in the gym, and I was able to start it back up, I got back to 230 [pounds] decently, then I gained 10 pounds these last four to six weeks. So I'm feeling pretty good about it."
Kittle earned All-Pro honors in 2023
Kittle played the majority of the 2023 NFL season with a core muscle injury, which led to his off-season surgery.
Despite this, he managed to post his third career 1,000-yard season and earned First-Team All-Pro honors.
Kittle finished the season with 65 receptions for 1,020 yards and six touchdowns, showcasing his resilience and determination.
The tight end's return to form is crucial for the 49ers, as his ability to impact the run game and act as a dynamic threat after the catch is invaluable.
The 49ers are 57-41 when Kittle plays since he ed the league in 2017 and 7-10 without him, underscoring his importance to the team.
As the 49ers gear up for another season with Super Bowl aspirations, Kittle's presence is as valuable as ever.
His joy and enthusiasm provide a significant boost to the locker room, something that can't be understated during the long grind of an NFL season.
The good news for San Francisco is that Kittle's happiness is in full swing, and his impact on the field is sure to follow as the 49ers hold their first training camp practice of the season on Wednesday.
