Russell Wilson and Jaxson Dart's relationship takes an unexpected direction amid their 'fight' to be Giants starter

As the New York Giants prepare for the 2025/26 NFL season, much attention has been focused on the quarterback room and now an interesting development has occurred in the battle between the veteran, Russell Wilson, and their first-round rookie, Jaxson Dart.

Initially expected to be a competitive race for the starting job between the old guard and the next generation, their relationship has instead taken an unexpectedly collaborative and ive direction.

Wilson, who ed on a one-year, $10.5 million contract from the Pittsburgh Steelers, has consistently emphasized the importance of team chemistry and it seems as though the 22-year-old is also onboard.

In fact, the 36-year-old Super Bowl champion is so committed to the idea that he hosted a dinner for several offensive teammates, including Jameis Winston, Tyrone Tracy Jr.,Cam Skattebo, Jermaine Eluemunor, and notably, Dart.

"Dinner & a Good Time with the Fellas! OLine, RBs, & QBs," Wilson posted online, underscoring his dedication to building unity well beyond the field instead of rivalry over his starting positon as evidenced with his hand on Dart's shoulder.

"Spending time when there's nobody watching," Wilson said of how to build chemistry. "Those moments, those relationships, going to dinner, talking, chopping it up, that team bonding is everything."

And clearly he is keen to stand by those words ahead of the 2025/26 NFL season, a good sign during a transitional period with a new franchise as they enter their post-Daniel Jones era.

What is the Giants' quarterback picture?

As aforementioned, Wilson penned the $10.5m deal shortly after his tenure with the Steelers came to a close. Dart is also there too, boasting a $4.24-million-per-year deal as part of his four-year rookie contract- which also included a $16.9m g bonus.

That's a huge vote of confidence from Joe Schoen and his front office at the MetLife Stadium as they tip him to be their quarterback of the future.

Also there is Jameis Winston, who ed the Giants on a two-year, eight million deal following the end of his time with the Cleveland Browns at the Huntington Bank Field in Ohio. He adds further experience to the quarterback depth chart.

Together, Wilson and Winston form a mentoring duo, offering Dart, who was selected No. 25 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, a rare opportunity to learn from two established NFL starters with varied paths to success.

"They've been great," Dart said of Winston and Wilson's mentoring duties. "I was wearing Russ' jersey with the Seahawks when he won the Super Bowl."

The team will be in action in Week 1 on September 7 as they take on the Washington Commanders in an all-NFC East match-up at the Northwest Stadium in Maryland.
