Chip Kelly's coaching reputation has taken a hit in the years since his explosive rise at Oregon.
Once hailed as a college football innovator - posting a stellar 46-7 record with the Ducks - Kelly's NFL journey has been far bumpier and especially with the Las Vegas Raiders.
His early success with the Philadelphia Eagles quickly gave way to controversy, as friction with players and front-office decisions ultimately led to his dismissal during his third season.
Now back in the NFL as the offensive coordinator for the Raiders, Kelly finds himself once again at the center of player-related criticism - this time from a familiar voice.
Former Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson, who played under Kelly in Philadelphia, took aim at his former coach during a recent appearance on the Up and Adams show.
The criticism stemmed from reports that the Raiders are asking rookie running back Ashton Jeanty to change his stance before even playing a snap in the league.
"Honestly, he's got to do better," Jackson said, pointedly avoiding naming Kelly directly.
"I don't like giving him light, but as a coach, you have to be better. This guy [Jeanty] was one of the best running backs in college football. He's had the production, still runs crazy, led the nation in yards. To come into the NFL and try to change his stance? I'm just not a fan of it."
Jackson's frustration centers on what he sees as premature meddling with a proven talent. He argued that any adjustments should come only after a player struggles - not before they've been given the chance to prove themselves at the next level.
Kelly responds as old tensions resurface
In response to the backlash, Kelly clarified that he wasn't the driving force behind the stance change.
According to him, the recommendation came from running backs coach Deland McCullough, not from himself. But that didn't stop Jackson from using the moment to revisit past grievances from their time together in Philadelphia.
Jackson was famously released by the Eagles in 2014 following a Pro Bowl season - one of the most controversial decisions of Kelly's tenure. That history clearly still lingers, as Jackson appeared eager to criticize the coach once more.
While it remains to be seen whether Jeanty's adjustment will impact his development, the episode has cast a fresh spotlight on Kelly's style and its reception among players. For DeSean Jackson, at least, some wounds have yet to heal.
