- Raiders WR Tre Tucker seeing clearly thanks to offseason Lasik eye surgery
- Las Vegas police may refuse to work Raiders games due to new NFL protocols
Just when they think they have figured things out, the Las Vegas Raiders once again have executed a change. For the first time since 2020, Gardner Minshew was named the starting quarterback of the team, as this year the veteran will lead the offense.
The information came from head coach Antonio Pierce himself three weeks before his team's debut against the Los Angeles Chargers in week 1, as the former Minshew prevailed over his teammate, Aidan O'Connell, who started the last nine games of the year past.
The feeling in Las Vegas is, initially, that there was no clear difference between the two. Their statistics in the last game have very few differences if we compare them, as Minshew complete 16 of 33 es for 212 yards through the air and a touchdown , and O'Connell completed 21 of 29 es for 172 yards, throwing for a touchdown and he was intercepted once.
This comes as a surprise to many
Beyond the numbers, Aidan O'Connell has also not proven to be regular so far, much less live up to the offense led by Davante Adams. In the end Gardner Minshew's experience has weighed much more than anything else.
Since arriving in the NFL in 2019, he has played for four different teams, starting 37 games between the Philadelphia Eagles, Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts with a record of 15-22.
Another point in his favor is that, unlike his teammate, he is a known player who usually has his moments in big plays, something that O'Connell struggled a lot to offer in his 10 starts during 2023, leaving the offense in 27th place from the entire NFL with a style that quite predictable for his rivals especially in a division with fierce competition.
