During the 2013-2014 school year, Patrick Mahomes capped his high school football career at Whitehouse High School with a senior season that cemented his status as a generational talent.
That year, he was named the MaxPreps Male Athlete of the Year, not only for his on-field heroics but also for his excellence across multiple sports.
What made Mahomes so unique, even then, was his versatility. He rushed for 948 yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior - on top of throwing for 4,619 yards and 50 touchdowns in an undefeated regular season. Add in his no-hitter on the baseball diamond with 16 strikeouts, and it becomes clear why scouts and fans began paying attention.
A hometown hero honored
Now, over a decade later, Mahomes has returned to his roots - this time, as a legend being recognized for his legacy. The Texas High School Football Hall of Fame announced that Mahomes will be part of its 2025 class of inductees. He will be officially honored on May 10, 2025, at a ceremony in Waco, ing a distinguished list that includes former Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III.
"This year, the Hall of Fame welcomes Patrick Mahomes II of Whitehouse High School on May 10, 2025....Patrick Mahomes II excelled for the Whitehouse Wildcats, throwing for more than 8,000 yards and 90 touchdowns in his final two high school seasons," the school said in a statement.
Mahomes' rise may seem meteoric from the outside, but those who knew him early on saw it coming. His high school coach, Adam Cook, recalled what set the young quarterback apart.
"He's a guy you can't help but like because he makes everyone around him to be better," Cook said, praising Mahomes' natural leadership and team-first mindset.
That leadership hasn't waned. Since entering the NFL, Mahomes has led the Chiefs to three Super Bowl victories in five appearances over eight seasons, solidifying his place among football's all-time elite. But through all the accolades, his loyalty to family and his alma mater has never wavered.
Mahomes' wife, Brittany Mahomes, was front and center at the Hall of Fame ceremony, capturing the emotional moment with an Instagram story of her husband - whom she affectionately called the "grim reaper" - and captioned it, "Go Wildcats @PatrickMahomes."
