Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs a rare list of bottom-tier offenses even if their top record says otherwise

The Chiefs have the best record in the league but are they really the best team ?

The Kansas City Chiefs are on their way to the first three-peat in NFL history, a position once reached by Tom Brady and never achieved. The team led by Patrick Mahomes is off to the best start in franchise history (9-0), has lost just one game in 14 and one in the last 19 dating back to last season. To make things more difficult for their rivals, they seem to have figured out how to win close games, as they currently have a 15-game winning streak in games decided by one score or less, and with the win over the Chargers, they became the 26th team in league history to start a season 12-1, but their point differential through 13 games (plus 56) is by far the smallest for a 12-1 team, with the 1976 Raiders (plus 89) being the second smallest.

Statistic shows Chiefs are on par with worst teams

Speaking on a topic that has to do with this point differential statistic, the Chiefs are one of five teams this season that have failed to sur thirty points scored this season, with their 30-27 win over the Panthers being their most points scored. The other four teams are the Patriots, Jets, Raiders, and Giants, i mean take a look at the teams they rub shoulders with, if we add and combine all their wins they do not reach the 12 of the Chiefs this season and are teams already eliminated from the playoffs that will also be within the first 10 picks of the next NFL Draft. This just goes to show that the Chiefs have not dominated their opponents and the defense under Steve Spagnuolo is once again keeping the team as a serious contender and not the offense.

The Chiefs have been in close games all season, and their two-point win on Sunday was the fourth of the season decided by one or two points, a total sured only once in the 105-year history of the NFL (Packers 1989). I find it amazing how a team can be the top contender for the title, well next to the Lions, without having comprehensively defeated any opponent in the season, the advantage is that in the playoffs the games are usually close and all these close results strengthen them to be even stronger, plus if we include that the AFC playoffs probably have to go through Kansas it gives more probability to the Chiefs to get the threepeat.

Finally, counting the playoffs, the Chiefs are 42-21 (.667) in one-score games from 2018-23 with Patrick Mahomes as their starting quarterback, so that's also a reason why they'll be playing six out of seven days this season because they keep games close, and that's entertaining.

Last Games of the Season For the Chiefs

The week 15 game for the Chiefs is on the road against the Browns, a game they should win on paper, but looking at their record and the Russian roulette that is Jameis Winston, it will certainly be a good game. Then they play their last home game before the playoffs on Saturday the 21st against the Texans. Then they go to Pittsburgh on Christmas Day, which is Wednesday, which would mean the Chiefs are the first team to play six out of seven days of the week, missing only Tuesday, which shows how popular they are and how the NFL loves to put them in prime time games. Finally they go to Denver in a game that could have a lot of playoff implications, for Denver the fact of being able to make the playoffs and for the Chiefs the seeding they will be in.
