Chiefs' era of excellence under Andy Reid pushes the limits of NFL history that could rival Brady's dynasty

The last time Reid had a losing season was in 2012 in his final season with the Eagles

When a team experiences consistent success over multiple seasons, the question often arises as to who is more important, the coach or the players. In the case of the Kansas City Chiefs with Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes, the symbiosis between the two is undeniable. It's hard to imagine the success of one without the other. While the players execute on the field, the coaches are the ones who spend the week deg plays and game plans that maximize their team's potential - something Tom Brady has also emphasized in the past.

Andy Reid's Decade of Excellence with the Kansas City Chiefs

Looking at Bill Belichick and Brady, who dominated the league for 19 years and won six Super Bowls in eight appearances, it's clear that Brady has had a greater impact. He went on to win another Super Bowl after leaving New England for Tampa Bay, while Belichick has only had one strong season since Brady's departure and has even retired. The parallels between the Patriots' dynasty and the Chiefs' current era are obvious, though New England's longevity puts them on a higher pedestal. However, Andy Reid's 10th consecutive season of 10 or more wins is a testament to the Chiefs' greatness and further solidifies the similarities.

The Chiefs and Reid secured their first double-digit win of the season with a Week 12 victory over the Carolina Panthers. It was Kansas City's 10th win of the season and gave Andy Reid his 19th season with at least 10 wins as a head coach. Even more impressive, Reid has compiled a 269-145-1 record in 415 games over his 26 years in the NFL, with only three losing seasons. Given the current state of the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes, it seems unlikely that a fourth losing season is on the horizon. Also, since Reid's arrival in 2013, the Chiefs have only missed the playoffs once.

Kansas City's Historic Run Under Andy Reid Continues

Reid's streak is second only to Bill Belichick's 17 consecutive seasons of 10 or more wins with the New England Patriots from 2003 to 2019. This year, the Chiefs are also poised to win their division again and claim their ninth consecutive AFC West title - just two shy of the Patriots' record 11 straight from 2009 to 2019. When Reid arrived in Kansas City in 2013, the team had the worst record in the league, winning just two games in the season prior to his arrival. In his first draft with the team, they selected Eric Fisher with the first overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. In the same draft, in the third round (63rd overall pick), the Chiefs selected Travis Kelce, and the rest, as they say, is history.

The Chiefs are chasing the historic milestone of the first three-peat in NFL history. Since Patrick Mahomes became the Chiefs' starting quarterback in 2018, the reigning champions have been the team to beat. They've reached the AFC Championship Game in each of the past six seasons and won three of the four Super Bowls they've played in. But the focus remains on the next game. This Sunday night, the Chiefs host the Los Angeles Chargers, a team against which Mahomes has a 9-2 record. Kansas City defeated the Chargers 17-10 in Week 4, a game in which Rashee Rice suffered a season-ending injury.
