As the Kansas City Chiefs embark on their journey to capture a third straight Super Bowl trophy, new faces are expected to play important roles, while some familiar faces are likely to take another step in their development.
For the latter, Isiah Pacheco seems like a prime candidate to truly break out and become an elite running back. For the former, rugby convert Louis Rees-Zammit is hoping to spell Pacheco on ing downs and make an impact. During a recent practice, the two were going through drills together and Pacheco appears to have taken the Welshman under his wing.

Pacheco was coaching up Rees-Zammit while doing -blocking drills. protection is a crucial yet overlooked aspect of playing running back in the NFL. Especially with Patrick Mahomes needing protection, it's imperative that his back be able to handle incoming -rushers.
Jerick McKinnon has long been the Chiefs' ing down back, as he had the coaches' trust due to his -blocking ability. With McKinnon still a free agent, the rookie has a chance to take his snaps in 2024. But in order to do so, the coaches need to be extremely sure that he can -protect.
It's refreshing to hear Pacheco say that he needs to work on it as well. Pacheco has been a dynamic runner through his first two seasons in the league, but he hasn't yet taken the next step in of being a true three-down back. Improving his -blocking would get him there.
