Jacksonville Jaguars see Travis Hunter as a once-in-a-generation talent, a potential franchise cornerstone with the athletic versatility and charisma to transform their team's identity.
Hunter's dual-role success at Colorado was no fluke. Few players have even attempted to pull double duty in the modern NFL. The game is faster, more specialized, and far more complex than it was even a decade ago.
Still, some legends believe in Hunter's ability. One of them is Patrick Peterson, a former All-Pro cornerback who once dabbled in offense and return duties himself. Peterson sees the raw tools and instinctual ability in Hunter to excel. But he also sounded a note of caution.
"I don't want to put a cap on Travis. I don't want to say he cannot do it because we had these conversations," Peterson said. "The only difference is going to be between college level and the NFL level is that he is going to be in the classroom more. I don't know if he is going to be able to divide his time between both places. That's going to be the trickiest part."
In the NFL, success hinges not just on raw athleticism, but on preparation. Each week, Hunter will be expected to absorb complex playbooks, study opposing tendencies, and execute near-flawless performances.
Brown's take on Hunter
Another voice weighing in was Coach Jason Brown, known to many as "Coach JB."
"He's going to lose money. It's a fact. He's going to lose money," Brown said. "You can do it and be impactful for 10-15 snaps.
You can't be great or elite at both, just for the simple fact that the math, time, and the effort that it takes to go in and be unbelievable 10,000 hours at one thing."
Despite the challenges ahead, Hunter is already making waves in Jacksonville. At OTAs, teammates and coaches have been glowing in their early assessments. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence praised his competitiveness and energy, while defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile called him "a joy to coach" and "relentless."
