- NFL. Trevor Lawrence carted off after brutal hit sparks all-out brawl in Jaguars-Texans clash
- Houston Texans. Is Yung Miami moving on from Diddy with NFL star Steffon Diggs?
Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair is under scrutiny after his latest on-field incident involving Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
Al-Shaair's rough style may cost him
With 4:20 left in the first half of Sunday's game, Al-Shaair delivered a forceful hit to Lawrence's head and shoulder area as the quarterback slid to give himself up.
The hit ignited a brawl between the two teams, leading to the ejection of both Al-Shaair and Jaguars cornerback Jarrian Jones.
This isn't the first time Al-Shaair has faced backlash for aggressive play.
In Week 2, he was fined $11,817 for unnecessary roughness against Bears running back Roschon Johnson.
During the same game, Al-Shaair punched Johnson in the facemask after a sideline hit on Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, escalating tensions on the field.
Al-Shaair's actions, a concern for the Houston Texans
Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans, who previously coached Al-Shaair during their time with the San Francisco 49ers, addressed the issue during a halftime interview.
"That is not representative of us. We play smart, we play clean," Ryans stated.
His comments marked a shift from earlier defenses of Al-Shaair's conduct, signaling the team's growing concern over the linebacker's behavior.
The NFL's Officiating Department reviews every play, and Al-Shaair's actions on Sunday will be evaluated for potential disciplinary action.
According to league sources, Al-Shaair could face suspension ahead of Houston's next game on December 15 against the Miami Dolphins, given his repeated history of unnecessary roughness.
Al-Shaair's pattern of behavior stretches beyond his time with the Texans.
During his tenure with the 49ers, he notably grabbed then-Tampa Bay quarterback Tom Brady by the neck, a move widely criticized for its recklessness.
While football is inherently violent, the league aims to maintain safety and sportsmanship.
If Al-Shaair fails to adjust his playing style, his NFL future could be at risk.
As the league continues to crack down on dangerous play, players with repeated offenses are under heightened scrutiny, and Al-Shaair may soon find himself paying a steep price for his on-field decisions.
