- Lions 21-20 Chiefs. Shock in Kansas City: Lions upset Super Bowl champion Chiefs to kick off 2023 NFL season
- Detroit Lions. 'It ain't the same Detroit': Lions celebrate huge upset over Super Bowl champion Chiefs
Aidan Hutchinson was one of the stars of the Detroit Lions who led the team to a 21-20 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL's regular season kickoff.
The defensive end was especially hyper when he approached fans who traveled to Kansas City to thank them for ing the team in the season opener.
Hutchinson's strong start
The second-year defensive end was a stud in the Lions' defense having to contend with Jawaan Taylor's controversial strategy during the whole game.
Hutchinson was all over the Chiefs offensive line trying to pressure Patrick Mahomes. While he didn't manage to put the current MVP on the ground, he finished the game amassing a total of 4 tackles and 3 quarterback hits.
The 23-year-old showed he was amped up after the Lions' outstanding performance when addressing the Lions fanbase through the NFL's social media team after the game.
"Hey Lions fanbase you all showed up today, it was a great game, great win, great way to start the season," Hutchinson said to the camera while he headed to a group of Lions fans in the stands.
He finished his message by enthusiastically saying "Big dub, big win, see you next week!" already looking forward to their next opponent, the Seattle Seahawks.
Aidan's parents awkwardly featured during NBC's broadcast
NBC got to air the season opener under their SNF umbrella and they unveiled a new feature during their broadcast by having Aidan's parents mic'd up during the game aiming for the couple to offer colorful commentary while they watched their son play.
Unfortunately, it appears their strategy backfired as Melissa and Chris' contributions fell short and were irrelevant leaving fans perplexed during the game.
