Fans of the Dallas Cowboys don't know how to feel about Dak Prescott. Most will it that he's an above average starting quarterback in the NFL, but not an elite one that deserves to be the highest-paid signal-caller in the league. Due to Prescott's up-and-down seasons and a lack of postseason success for the team, fans are always looking for a possible path to a new quarterback. A fair share of backups have come and gone, but Prescott has stood strong.
The Cowboys' newest addition has some fans very intrigued, though. Joe Milton, who spent one season with the New England Patriots after being drafted in the same class as Drake Maye, was acquired by the Cowboys via a trade this offseason. The trade was a bit of a stunner for everyone, considering Milton had shown a lot of promise in the preseason and in his one regular season appearance in 2024. New England likely wanted to recoup some value given that Milton would be stuck behind Maye for likely his whole Patriots career, but it was still odd.
Joe Milton is still stunned by Patriots trade, but he's learning from Dak Prescott
In fact, it was odd to Milton perhaps more than anyone, and it continues to be. He spoke to Cowboys media during OTAs on Friday and revealed what his thoughts were on the trade. It sounds like he's excited to the Cowboys despite being shocked about the Patriots' decision.
Was I surprised? Yes. I kind of woke up around, like, 7 o'clock, to a call and I knew I was getting traded... Coming here was a blessing. I didn't know it was going to be here. I didn't know where I was going to end up. I was just thankful to go to work. [But now I'm] back in the heat, for one. He allowed me to play in the dome, for two. And, three, it's America's team. Also, it's just great to learn from someone like Dak.
That last part may be of particular interest to Cowboys fans. Milton's physical profile is incredible, with jaw-dropping arm strength and enviable arm talent. If he could learn to navigate pockets and make plays out of structure like Prescott, the Cowboys could be looking at a potential franchise quarterback in the future.
