At the Dallas Cowboys' 2025 rookie minicamp, undrafted free agent wide receiver Ryan Flournoy emerged as a surprising standout.
Despite not being selected in the NFL Draft, Flournoy's performance during the minicamp practices caught the attention of coaches and media alike.
Flournoy's impressive performance
During team drills, Flournoy made a notable impact by catching a touchdown that drew comparisons to former Cowboys star Dez Bryant's signature fade route.
ESPN's Todd Archer remarked, "Trey Lance might have had his best throw of the offseason with a deep ball to Jalen Tolbert to convert a third and short. Perfect throw to the outside shoulder. On the next play, WR Ryan Flournoy made a Dez Bryant-like grab on a fade for a TD but the 2-point play failed."
Patrik Walker from the Cowboys' official website also highlighted Flournoy's performance, noting, "Flournoy gave the DB in coverage no chance even though he was draped all over the rookie from the start of the route."
Flournoy's athleticism is evident, with a relative athletic score (RAS) of 9.89, the highest among any wide receiver in Cowboys history. This exceptional score underscores his potential and has generated significant buzz among fans and analysts.
A rising star
While Flournoy's standout performance at minicamp has garnered attention, it's important to note that the Cowboys' rookie class includes several other promising talents.
For instance, second-round pick Donovan Ezeiruaku, a defensive end from Boston College, brings a wealth of accolades, including the 2024 Ted Hendricks Award and ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Ezeiruaku's presence adds depth to the Cowboys' defensive line and complements the team's overall strategy.
Additionally, third-round pick Cooper Beebe is being considered for the starting center position, with head coach Mike McCarthy expressing confidence in Beebe's transition from guard to center.
McCarthy stated, "He's looked good so far, I've been impressed." Beebe's adaptability and performance during minicamp practices suggest he could play a significant role in the Cowboys' offensive line.
