As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, all eyes are once again on Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys.

Despite holding the 12th overall pick and boasting over $37 million in cap space, the franchise continues to dance around real roster transformation.

Fans tired of Jerry Jones' false hope

Long-time fans recall Jones' vow last year that the team would be "all in," only to witness a quiet and uneventful free agency.

With limited offseason activity and needs across the roster, faith in the front office is wavering.

Historically reluctant to trade up, something they haven't done since selecting Morris Claiborne in 2012, the Cowboys have made it clear they prefer accumulating picks over making splashy moves.

But during a press conference earlier this week, Jones reignited speculation by hinting at two "pretty substantive trades" in the works.

With no details given, it left fans and analysts alike questioning whether this is a genuine plan, or just another case of smoke and mirrors.

One of those raising doubts is former Cowboys defensive end and current ESPN analyst Marcus Spears.

On The Dan Patrick Show, Spears didn't hold back when asked about the team's direction under Jones.

"It's like when you're in a relationship, and the man keeps telling the woman, I'm going to get better, right?"Spears said.

"And she realized like it's we 15 years in now, and you still trying to do those things that you said you were going to get better at. I'm just going to wait and see with Jerry, man."

Spears, who played seven seasons in Dallas, also questioned the motivation behind Jones' public remarks.

"I think the intentions are good, and I say that all the time, right? Their intentions are good, and then Jerry gets off on another tangent, and he forgets that he has to run a football team," he added.

"So yeah, it's unfortunate. It's something I grapple with most of the year since I decided to do this job."

While Jones' comments have fueled speculation of a bold draft-night move, Cowboys fans have heard it all before.

Until the team backs its words with action, many-Spears included-remain skeptical.

Whether the "substantive trades" come to fruition or vanish like past promises, Thursday night in Green Bay will offer clarity-or another chapter in the wait-and-see saga.
