Former Cowboys Hall of Famer, DeMarcus Ware, has issued a warning to current players about the imminent "culture shock" they may experience with Mike Zimmer on board. Zimmer, the former Minnesota Vikings head coach, is set to bring a significant shift in the atmosphere of the Cowboys organization, according to Ware.
In an interview, Ware emphasized that Zimmer's influence will not be limited to just the practice field and games, but will extend to the locker room and off-field activities as well. "With Zimmer, the atmosphere of the Cowboys is going to change," Ware said. "Not just from the practice field and the games, it's going to change in the locker room and from who's leading, who's having ownership over the team and what are we doing on our spare time."
Ware further elaborated on the changes players can expect under Zimmer's leadership. He highlighted that leisure activities like playing pool or arcade games and getting haircuts will take a backseat, making way for a more focused and disciplined approach.
"We're not playing pool, we're not playing arcade games, we're not getting haircuts; we're studying film, and everybody is in there at the same time we might have a donut from time to time but it's all about football when it comes to Zimmer," Ware explained.
Zimmer will demand full commitment, no distractions allowed
The former linebacker's warning sheds light on Zimmer's strong emphasis on dedication to the game and a no-nonsense approach to player conduct. His remarks indicate that under Zimmer's leadership, the Cowboys will prioritize a football-centric environment, where players are expected to be fully committed to their craft both on and off the field.
Zimmer's history with the Cowboys adds weight to Ware's cautionary message. Having served as the defensive backs coach for Dallas from 1994 to 1999, Zimmer is no stranger to the organization. His return to the Cowboys, this time as a key figure in a leadership role, is poised to mark a significant shift in the team's ethos and operational dynamics.
As the Cowboys prepare for this transition, Ware's words serve as a valuable insight for current players, providing them with a glimpse into what they can anticipate under Zimmer's stewardship. The impending "culture shock" is not merely a change in coaching style but a transformation in the very fabric of the team's identity.
