- Cleveland Browns. Did the Cleveland Browns draft Shedeur Sanders to use him in a future trade?
- Cleveland Browns. Shedeur Sanders opens up about painful truth about NFL Draft night, and it's not being picked on Round 5
Shedeur Sanders' tenure with the Cleveland Browns could be shorter than everyone expected. Recent reports revealed that the team is open to the possibility of the former Colorado star leaving before even touching the ball.
After the 2025 NFL Draft drama, Deion Sanders' son seemed to have found his place with the Browns. Despite the team having five quarterbacks on the roster, led by the injured Deshaun Watson, some analysts believe Shedeur has the potential to win the starting spot.
The job would not be easy; lining up behind Watson are veteran Joe Flacco, third-year signal-caller Kenny Pickett, and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel. With so many quarterbacks on the roster, Cleveland could seek a deal with the first team that needs a replacement quarterback, and Shedeur could be at the top of the list.
The Browns are open to a trade
In a recent opinion piece, ESPN analyst Jeremy Fowler suggested the Browns could trade one of their quarterbacks if injuries at the position "happen across the league." According to Fowler, "The Browns look at the roster through the prism of value and currency."
In other words, the franchise would be looking to recoup at least one of the draft picks it gave up to acquire Gabriel, Sanders, and Pickett. "Perhaps the Browns can get a pick back for one of them," the specialist stated.
With Watson potentially out the entire season recovering from an Achilles tendon injury, Flacco is almost guaranteed to be the starter for 2025. Pickett arrived in Cleveland in a trade with Philadelphia just a few weeks ago, and it seems unlikely he will leave the team so soon. This leaves Sanders and Gabriel as the most likely trade pieces.
Shedeur's poor start
Shedeur got off to a poor start in the Browns' rookie minicamp. Young Sanders's first with the team was horrible and ended up being intercepted. While it can all be attributed to stage fright, the video of the error went viral within hours, reigniting criticism of the player.
If Sanders fails to right the ship in the coming weeks, Cleveland could make the rumors come true and end up sending the former Buffalo player to a team in need of a quarterback. A spot has just opened up with the New Orleans Saints with the unexpected retirement of Derek Carr. Is there a possibility?
