- Cleveland Browns. Shedeur is in the NFL, but did Deion Sanders like his new team? The truth about the Cleveland Browns draft pick
Shedeur Sanders did everything right at Colorado, both on and off the field. On the field, he proved to be an exceptional quarterback, leading the Buffaloes with precision, intelligence, and charisma. His numbers speak for themselves.
Off the field, however, he has generated some controversy. He is a very charismatic character with great leadership skills, and his family has played an important role in shaping his strong character.
Expectations were very high when he entered the NFL Draft. Analysts and experts placed Shedeur among their top picks, but unfortunately for him, that did not happen.
Not only did it not happen, but he was one of the last picks, and the ridicule and memes were relentless, to the point that two guys called him and made fun of him for not being selected. Everything was definitely going wrong for him.
Despite all this, the Cleveland Browns decided to take a chance on Shedeur Sanders with the 144th pick. So the debate has shifted and everyone is wondering what put the former Colorado player in this situation.
ESPN's Matt Miller has the answer
NFL draft expert Matt Miller explained on his show that the mistakes made leading up to the draft were the key to Shedeur Sanders only being selected in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
"The NFL will humiliate anybody," the analyst said on the Awful Announcing podcast.
Shedeur Sanders' decision not to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine workouts and his unconventional approach leading up to the draft caused several teams to be cautious, which ultimately contributed to his unexpected selection in the fifth round of the 2025 draft.
The truth is, maybe they saw that he wasn't very professional, so they decided to go with a different type of player, which cost him dearly, and Miller himself makes that very clear.
"And it's not just in hindsight. I got a lot of flack for saying on 'NFL Live' right before the NFL Scouting Combine that he was making a mistake. He should throw at the NFL Scouting Combine," Matt said.
And keep in mind that Matt Miller also placed some of the blame on those around him for giving him bad advice, as that also affects Sanders' mindset.
"He's not guaranteed to be a second or third round pick. And the fact that they're approaching the process that way is hurting him," he said on the Awful Announcing podcast.
