After a career spanning 14 years in the NFL, Colt McCoy has decided to hang up his boots and retire from the sport.

McCoy will now move into an analyst role with NBC Sports, covering college football, as was confirmed on Monday afternoon.

"Thank you, football," McCoy posted on Instagram.

Why is college football coverage a good fit for McCoy?

Despite his experiences in the NFL, Colt McCoy's best days arguably came in college when he was with the Texas Longhorns.

He was a two-time Heisman Trophy finalist and is considered one of the best players to suit up for the Longhorns.

His college days created an aura around McCoy, which in truth never carried over into the NFL, but there is now an Underdog Original feature to be released about his career.

"Excited for the next chapter," McCoy also stated on Instagram. "College football has always held a special place in my heart.

"With the expansion of the Big Ten and new era of college football, it is the perfect time to NBC Sports."

When will Colt McCoy make his NBC Sports debut?

As part of the NBC Sports college football program, the revamped Big Ten will feature heavily in the broadcasts.

As such there will be a specific Big Ten College Countdown show, and McCoy will be part of the analyst on that particular show.

It won't be McCoy's first foray into television though, as he was part of NBC Sports' USFL broadcasts in 2023/24.

He will also complete game analyst duties which are due to begin on September 7 when the Nebraska Cornhuskers host the Colorado Buffaloes, coached by Deion Sanders.
