There was a moment early in the 2023 season when Shedeur Sanders was a legitimate contender for the Heisman Trophy. An electric start to the season put him on the map, but the team fell apart over the course of the season, finishing with a 4-8 record.
With Colorado expected to be improved in a lot of aspects this season, Sanders is back on the radar of bettors. But can he actually pull it off? If the current betting odds are anything to go by, he will have to have a massive season to even have a chance. There isn't too much faith out there.
Dillon Gabriel the Heisman favorite before 2024 NCAA season
Unsurprisingly, the favorites for this year's Heisman are almost all quarterbacks. Seven of the last eight winners have been signal-callers. And they dominate the top of the betting odds with the college season a month away.
- Dillon Gabriel (QB, Oregon): +700
- Carson Beck (QB, Georgia): +750
- Quinn Ewers (QB, Texas): +1000
- Will Howard (QB, Ohio State): +1400
- Nico Iamaleava (QB, Tennessee): +1400
- Jalen Milroe (QB, Alabama): +1400
- Jaxson Dart (QB, Ole Miss): +1400
Sanders is very far down the list, coming in at +4000 odds. Three other players have the same odds as the Colorado quarterback: Noah Fifita (QB, Arizona), KJ Jefferson (QB, UCF) and Miller Moss (QB, USC).
Sanders' teammate, Travis Hunter, is actually the non-quarterback with the best odds at +6000. He's followed by Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III, who's at +6500.
