The SEC Media Days have been buzzing with talk of the Texas Longhorns, the latest addition to the conference. Every player and coach in attendance has been asked about the Longhorns, and the anticipation only grew when their representatives took the stage. Head coach Steve Sarkisian, along with offensive tackle Kelvin Banks, defensive back Jahdae Barron, and star quarterback Quinn Ewers, addressed the media.
Quinn Ewers, a leading Heisman candidate and cover athlete for the EA Sports College Football 25 video game, drew significant attention. Despite his status as one of the top quarterbacks in college football, much of the focus was on his backup, Arch Manning. Manning, a former five-star recruit and the No. 1 ranked player in his class, is the grandson of the legendary Archie Manning and nephew to NFL greats Peyton and Eli Manning.
Fans speculated that Manning might push for the starting role or transfer if he didn't secure it. However, Manning has taken a different path, choosing to learn and Ewers from the sidelines. Although Manning has just 30 career ing yards, his presence and potential have kept him in the spotlight.
In an interview with ESPN's Elle Duncan, Ewers shed light on Manning's personality, describing him as "goofy." Ewers said, "What most people don't realize is that he's goofy, he's a goofy guy. He's just fun to be around. He's a funny guy. It's hard not to enjoy being around him."
Manning and Ewers are good friends
Despite assumptions of rivalry, Sarkisian emphasized the strong friendship and mutual respect between Ewers and Manning. "These guys are great, great friends. Nobody gets along better," Sarkisian told ESPN. "There's a real level of appreciation for what each guy is doing. Because they know the journey, they know the path, they know how we coach him. From Arch's perspective, he's watching Quinn have to go through some of the adversity, having to fight through injury, having to deal with the criticism of being the quarterback of Texas, so to see him have success, I think Arch is fired up for Quinn."
With a strong showing last season, the Longhorns are viewed as one of the top teams heading into 2024. Sarkisian expressed confidence that both Ewers and Manning will play pivotal roles in achieving their goals. The team effort and camaraderie between the two quarterbacks are seen as crucial elements in their pursuit of success.
