New York Yankees relief pitcher Anthony Misiewicz was placed on the concussion injured list Saturday after taking a 100.6 mph line drive to the face Friday at PNC Park against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was released from a local hospital later that night after undergoing tests.

Misiewicz, 28, returned to the team hotel and the worst was seemingly behind him, but he started experiencing concussion-related symptoms Saturday. Yankees manager Aaron Boone confirmed the reliever is doing well.

"I saw Anthony last night when he got back from the hospital," Boone said on Saturday. "I was able to stop by his room and see him. He was in good sprits. Looked and sounded pretty good. He's definitely got some (concussion-related) symptoms today. But, I think, all things considered, he's doing pretty well.

"I think he'll be over here a little bit later. I think he's going to see the doctor here again tomorrow and then, obviously, when we get back to New York, he'll go through more battery (of tests), see our doctors and everything."

The powerful line drive off the bat of Pirates infielder Ji Hwan Bae hit Misiewicz near the left ear and ricocheted to right field.

Misiewicz began bleeding rapidly as he fell to the ground, but remained conscious and alert before getting helped up to his feet and carried off the diamond.

He joked with teammates as he left the field: "I thought I threw a pretty good curveball."

Misiewicz was making just his third appearance with the Yankees after being called up from Triple-A last weekend.

Yankees activated Ian Hamilton from the 15-day injured list to take Misiewicz's place in the bullpen.
