If there is one city that holds all kinds of stories beneath its asphalt, it is Rome. The Italian capital was the center of the empire that dominated the world for much of history.
Despite the centuries that have ed, an expedition has discovered a historical fact in the middle of the street. This is the Appian Way, one of the most important roads of ancient Rome, which linked the city with the port.
A group of scientists from the University of Ferrara was responsible for this discovery. We are talking about a tomb with mosaic decoration, marble slabs, libation holes and a Greek funerary inscription. This coffin was only the first, as an imperial-era funerary complex with cremations was later found, to which individual tombs were later added.
The incredible discovery of the University of Ferrara in Rome
The area discovered by this expedition was considered sacred, as in the past it was an area close to the field by the river Almone, where history tells that the amorous skirmishes between Rhea Silvia and Mars took place, from which Romulus and Remus were born. It is also considered that in this area stood the great Temple of Mars, where the Romans trained for war.
According to Cesar Dorado, on his social networks, in this expedition they have been discovering mosaic floors, plaster stucco decoration and all kinds of objects related to the Roman funeral world. Even so, there is one detail that has caught the attention of this expert in archaeology, history and art.
In one of the tombs you can read the following inscription: "Chre(stos)". For Dorado it means "good, worthy, virtuous, a common farewell formula in the Greek funerary world". You can also read "IVL", considered by the expert to be the abbreviation of Julius or Lulia.
