The Social Security istration (SSA) is preparing to issue the next round of payments in May, targeting a new group of retirees, and these payments can reach up to $4,108, depending on various factors.
The SSA serves more than 69 million beneficiaries, with retirees and their dependents ing for 78.5% of total benefits distributed in 2024.
In addition, payments are made to workers with disabilities (SSDI) and to beneficiaries of the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program.
How much do retirees receive with the COLA increase?
The next SSA payment is scheduled for May 14, with an average payment for this group of $4,108 dollars according to the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA).
However, some retirees could receive up to $5,108 dollars if they meet certain criteria, such as having made the required maximum deposits and delaying retirement until age 70.
These are the amounts that retirees can receive according to their retirement age and professional contributions:
- The average payment for a retiree is $1,976.
- A retired couple, who receive the same benefits, will receive an average payment of $3,089.
- Those who opted for early retirement at age 62 receive a maximum of $2,777 per month.
- Those who retired at age 67 can receive up to $4,018 per month.
- Those who delayed retirement until age 70 can receive a maximum monthly payment of up to $5,180.
Nearly nine out of 10 people over the age of 65 receive a Social Security benefit.
On May 14, 2025, at midnight, the SSA will credit the funds to the s of SSI beneficiaries, according to the annual schedule. There are two ways to receive the funds from this federal program:
- Direct deposit into a bank is simple and secure. Beneficiaries should their bank or SSI to arrange payment.
- Alternatively, the Direct Express debit card program allows payments to be deposited on schedule.
