The decisions of of the film industry can make or break a career and, with it, gain or not the recognition of the general public. Everyone knows, or almost everyone knows, those who were part of 'Avengers: Endgame', as the second highest-grossing film in history was a tremendous success and crowned the greatest period of splendor for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
There are performers who, for various reasons, have turned down Marvel many times, but there are a few who, with hindsight, may well show some regret seeing the impact the saga had over the past decade. One of them, although she was part of 'Avengers: Infinity War', did not return for the next one for a very specific reason.
Carrie Coon and her disastrous negotiation with Marvel
According to Travis Letts on the podcast 'The Big Picture', his wife, actress Carrie Coon turned down Marvel for not giving her the pay rise she felt she deserved for her work. "I think Marvel talked to her for the second one and they asked her to be in the second one," he says.
Coon's question was whether, indeed, her fees were going to be increased, but the company's response was blunt. "No. We're not going to pay you more money," Letts explains, who claims that, in response, the actress chose not to appear in 'Endgame'. Marvel, upon learning of this, said the following: "Well, you should feel lucky to be part of the Marvel Universe."
Thus, the filmmakers decided that her character, Proxima Midnight, would make an appearance in 'Endgame'. However, without any dialogue and thus meet the minimum requirements of the script. Back in 2020, Carrie Coon justified her absence on Couch Surfing citing scheduling problems and joked: "Nobody dies. It's very possible that I could have my next 'Avengers' movie. But I would wait sitting down."
