Before Caitlin Clark came to the WNBA, there was Sabrina Ionescu, the prodigious point guard for the New York Liberty, who is making her second straight appearance in the WNBA Finals and is determined to make her mark on women's basketball history. Selected first overall by the New York Liberty in the 2020 WNBA Draft, Ionescu is is considered one of the greatest collegiate players of all time and is the NCAA's all-time leader in triple-doubles from the University of Oregon, in addition to being the player to score the most 3-point field goals (128) in a WNBA season. In just her fifth season her vision, ability to score from anywhere on the court and innate leadership have made her an iconic figure who has even participated in the NBA's three-point contestagainst Stephen Curry.

Quick Q&A with Sabrina Ionescu

MARCA correspondent Nacho Garcia is at the WNBA Finals and had a fun interview with player Sabrina Ionescu before game three in Minnesota against the Lynx. Sabrina revealed a talent that not everyone knows about, her favorite ice cream and her favorite activity outside of basketball, among a few other questions. We can see that she is extremely focused for game 3 and no wonder that these two teams met once before in Minnesota and the victory went to the Lynx 84-67 back in May.

Many people are watching the WNBA Finals for the first time, mainly because of the attention that Caitlin Clark has attracted, but as I told you at the beginning, Sabrina has at least the same talent as Clark and their playing styles are very similar, good three-point shooting, game manager, great assists and leadership personality. Ionescu, who had the best statistical regular season of her career in her fifth year with New York in 2024, finished sixth in the WNBA MVP voting after averaging 18.2 points, 6.2 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game.

WNBA Finals Game Three

The Minnesota Lynx beat the New York Liberty in the first game. However, the Liberty bounced back with an impressive win in game two. New York may now be in a good position to win the series, but Minnesota, with the Defensive Player of the Year Napheesa Collier, will not go down without a fight to thrill their home crowd. Whoever wins will have a chance to win the title on Friday in Minnesota. If Liberty loses, they'll become the first team since the Atlanta Dream (2010-11) to lose back-to-back Final Fours, and is something they did at the turn of the century.
