For the first time in 185 games spanning her college and professional career, Caitlin Clark is being forced to sit out.

The Indiana Fever confirmed this week that their star guard is dealing with a left quad strain, sidelining her for at least two weeks, a stretch that marks her first regular-season absence since her playing days began.

Caitlin Clark's first career injury

Clark, who sustained the injury during a matchup against the Atlanta Dream, will miss Wednesday night's game against the Washington Mystics, a moment that underscores just how rare her absence is.

Known for her fierce competitive spirit and unrelenting energy, the pause has left the second-year phenom visibly restless.

During a portion of Tuesday's practice open to the media, Clark was spotted on the court, dribbling between her legs, casually taking layups, and still engaging with teammates.

One humorous moment even captured Damiris Dantas telling her to "sit down and rest," prompting a smile from Clark but revealing her deep desire to remain active despite the doctor's orders.

Clark's impatience is understandable.

The 2025 season has been her breakout moment on the pro stage, where she averaged 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 9.3 assists across her first four games.

Now, as her body forces her into unfamiliar territory, the Fever are looking to veterans like Sydney Colson and Sophie Cunningham to step up in her absence.

Head coach Stephanie White views this period as more than just a recovery window.

"I think it's a great opportunity for Caitlin to watch the game from the sideline, to grow in a coaching kind of mindset and see some different things that we might be talking about on film," White said.

"As players you see [the game] in a micro viewpoint... when you're on the sideline, and you're watching it as a whole... I think it's gonna give her a unique perspective, and she's gonna come back better."

While the Fever adjust without their leader, league interest shifts elsewhere-most notably to fellow rookie Paige Bueckers.

With Clark out, Bueckers and the Dallas Wings are grabbing the spotlight, even as Indiana sees ticket prices plunge by over 40%.

Still, even off the court, Caitlin Clark remains a presence.

The fire is still there, it's just learning, for once, to sit still.
