With a new season about to begin, WNBA teams are gearing up to reach their goals. Expectations are high and the hunger for victory is even higher.

Each team, as well as each player, feels the pressure to give their fans a joy and make them smile, and a couple of days before the start of the regular season, these are the candidates to make the grade.

In this sense, ESPN released its list of the 25 best players of this preseason and, to the surprise of many, Caitlin Clark does not appear among the top three candidates, but fourth.

New York Liberty forward Breanna Stewart is in third place, behind Las Vegas Aces center A'ja Wilson. Leading the table is Napheesa Collier, forward for the Minnesota Lynx.

However, another detail that puzzled fans was the 10th place ranking of Los Angeles Sparks' Kelsey Plum and the last place ranking of Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese.

The numbers of the chosen ones

Brenna Stewart, 30, averaged 20.4 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game last season. She is also coming off leading Liberty to a WNBA title.

A'ja Wilson averaged the most points in a single season with a total of 25.3 points per game. At 28 years old, she already has three MVPs to her credit.

Finally, Napheesa Collier was MVP runner-up last year and at 28 earned Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Sky forward Angel Reese averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds and Caitlin Clark, 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 8.4 assists and led Indiana Fever to Playoffs after almost 8 years.

Undoubtedly, this season will be a great opportunity for all of them to prove that they deserve to be in the number 1 position.
