Shai's ¤15,000 gift to each teammate for his MVP

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander may be the happiest player in the world right now, thanks to the MVP award he just won, but it has cost him a pretty penny. The Canadian player not only wanted to thank his teammates for the fabulous season they have had with good words, but with actions, which in this case are gifts.

Shai, as can be seen in the video, has given a Rolex watch to each member of the Thunder squad. Each watch is valued at around 15,000 euros, so the joke cost him more than 300,000 euros, which the Canadian will have gladly paid.

According to the NBA MVP himself, the idea came up last year, as he explained in the press conference after it was announced that the award was for him:

"Well, I think it was last season," Shai said. "We were on the bus messing around as always, and I don't who it was... actually, yes I do, it was J-Will (Jalen Williams). He said, 'Two, what are you going to give us when you win the MVP?' It's a crazy question, but I don't know why we brought it up; watches were in the conversation. A lot of the team likes watches. Who doesn't like watches?"

In the end, the Thunder leader had to keep his word: "So I said yes, which was silly of me. But as I got closer to the finish line, I thought, 'Wait a minute, I really have to do what I said I was going to do'. So I made it happen." And every Thunder player now has a Rolex on their wrist from Shai worth just over 15,000 euros. It's the Canadian's way of thanking them for a dream season that is still going strong in the Western Conference finals.
