A picture is worth 1,000 words, and that has proved to be the case at the players' restaurant at the Australian Open. The tennis players queued up to choose their food from a splendid buffet where everything is an option. Notably, Novak Djokovic pulled out a cup with only white rice inside it.
It is a diet that has led him to discover a second youth at the age of 37. Djokovic began to enjoy increased success when he met the Serbian nutritionist, Igor Cetojevic, who recommended gluten-free food without the need to be celiac.
Vegetables, white meat, fish, fruit, nuts, chickpeas and lentils are part of the 24-time major champion's daily routine.
"Suddenly there was an X factor, a change in my diet that allowed my body to perform as it should," wrote Djokovic in the book 'Serve to Win'.
Alcaraz follows Djokovic's lead
Alcaraz has been following a similar gluten-free diet for the past year. He does not stray from it during tournaments or at home in El Palmar. His mother Virginia prepares pasta for everyone and a gluten-free version for Carlitos.
It all came about after his physiotherapist Juanjo Moreno suggested the change. In the last Open in Melbourne, it was Abel Lusa, owner of the restaurant Cambio de Tercio, who prepared special dishes for the youngster.
He revealed: "We made him potato omelet, crispy avocado and salmon tacos and tuna belly carpaccio."
More recently, in Paris, the Murcian has been on a gastronomic tour. From L'Avenue, through to Café di Roma, the Siena and even Gigi, the place chosen by Mbappe to say goodbye to his PSG teammates.
But even during these visits, the tennis star has not forgotten the habits that have brought him to the top at the age of 21.
Alcaraz's European clay tour has been impacted by a forearm injury. He missed Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Rome. Going back further, he also had a sprained ankle in Rio.
"I ask my team why. I ask them 'but why if I'm doing things right'. I'm sleeping well, I'm eating well, I'm training well and injuries come. I'm 20 years old and my body is not done," he questioned.
On Tuesday evening, Alcaraz will face Stefanos Tsitsipas in a repeat of last year's quarter-finals.
