Previously, CD Projekt RED had confirmed that they would show some news about The Witcher 4 during the State of Unreal 2025 at the Summer Game Fest. What many did not expect is that they would do it with gameplay.

In fact, during the Epic Games and Unreal Engine conference, the Polish studio decided to unveil more than a couple of details. Everything we saw during the conference were extracts from the video game recorded on a PS5 and at 60 FPS. However, strictly speaking, what has been shown is actually a technical demo in Unreal Engine.

GTA 6: Watch Grand Theft Auto VI awaited trailer

The tech demo takes place in the region of Kovir, which will debut in the video game saga with The Witcher 4. The presentation followed the protagonist, Ciri, and her horse Kelpie, as they traversed the rugged mountains and dense forests of Kovir to the bustling port city of Valdrest. During the tour, CD PROJEKT RED and Epic Games took an in-depth look at how each feature contributes to performance, visual fidelity and shapes the immersive open world of The Witcher 4

The Witcher 4 looks great in its first gameplay trailer

Some of these extracts were montages to show off the virtues of the graphics engine, while others were sections of the game running in what appears to be real time. Mostly, we were shown different segments of a city and the world... and it looks spectacular.

So much so that, along with GTA 6, it is one of the few games that have made us think that "this is next-gen on consoles (not PC)for real". According to the developers, everything shown during the first section of the conference was recorded on a PS5.

To be honest, I'm really surprised at the qualitative leap we find between The Witcher 4 and GTA 6 compared to many other games of the current generation. Not all of them, of course, as there are many others that look really good.

Despite this, CD Projekt RED and Rockstar seem to be on another level based on what we've seen. We'll have to see what it looks like when we get our hands on it, but the outlook is really good.

The gameplay sample has not come alone, as a new promotional cinematic has also been shown that has also given us goosebumps. To be honest, if I was convinced before that The Witcher 4 was going to be a great game, now I'm completely sure that it will be.
