I'm convinced: the meta of Pokemon TCG is going to change with the new Scarlet & Violet-Obsidian Flames expansion. Thanks to TPCi I was able to try the set early and you'd better hold on, because the TCG is going to undergo changes.
As many of you will know, the new expansion of the Pokemon card game will bring with it more than 240 new cards, including more than 85 trainer Pokemon (45 are from Team Rocket).
More than 15 Pokemon Ex, more than 20 trainer cards and more than 45 with special illustrations will also be added. It's not a small set, and Scarlet and Purple-Destined Rivals promises to revolutionize the Pokemon TCG.
Pokemon TCGScarlet & Violet-151 could change everything
The expansion --which will be released on May 30 and will be part of the standard format-- has given Trainer's Pokemon a major importance.
I must say there are some really interesting interactions. For example, the Team Rocket's Nasty Robot can be really annoying, as it allows us to swap cards from the opponent's hand and prizes
However, like other cards that also belong to the Team Rocket archetype, it depends a bit on luck. Nevertheless, it is very curious
There are other quite powerful ones, such as Rocket's , as it allows us to remove the opponent's hand (and ours), being able to make quite powerful plays while we try to frustrate their plans.
Without going to the extreme, it has hints of control and disruption. In addition, there are cards such as the Team Rocket's Hideout stadium that allow us to accelerate our draw, although it can play tricks on us if the opponent is also playing it.
Among these, and the abilities of the different Team Rocket Pokemon, I think you can design some really interesting decks. In fact, that's what I've been playing to prepare this preview and I've already seen some pretty interesting things.
The new Pokemon TCG expansion brings new features
As you would expect, Team Rocket is not the only one that has come out on top in this expansion, although it is the main protagonist of the expansion and the one that should have the most weight in quite a few decks.
However, we will also have other Pokemon and trainer-themed cards with Echo, Damian, Cynthia and Roxy as protagonists. Thanks to the presence of Pokemon, such as Echo's Ho-Ho ex or Cynthia's Garchomp ex, they will have little things.
Despite this, I still think Team Rocket has everything to gain, as they also have exes as powerful as Mewtwo or Crobat. By far, it is the one with the most options, which is why I think they can dominate the meta.
They have a lot of firepower, especially thanks to cards like Giovanni, which allows us to switch the active Pokemon for one on the bench on both our side of the table and the opponent's.
And for those who don't know the game as well or are looking for special content, there are very simple ways to start playing. For example, the Jumpstart boxes come with pre-built decks
In the top photo you can see one of Team Rocket's Tyranitar and Misty's Gyarados, and they are designed to start playing without having to do anything. On the other hand, the ETB comes with several packs, special sleeves, dice and markers, a set of energies, dividers and a promo.
If you like collecting or want to start, both are quite interesting options.
