The price of GTA 6 is one of the issues that has generated the most doubts. It is not the only one. Another of the most common questions is how much money Rockstar is investing in the development of Grand Theft Auto 6 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
At the moment, most sources (such as ICT), although nothing is official, estimate that the final spend will be between $1 billion and $2 billion. That is, it would be between three and seven times more expensive than GTA 5 (its budget is estimated to have been around $265 million).
It's certainly a very considerable expense, although --as I have already mentioned-- it has not been confirmed what its development budget is. Considering that it will be released in 2026, we will not know for some time.
Grand Theft Auto 6 may have cost between $1 billion and $2 billion
However, there are so many media outlets, insiders and rumors that have put the final budget between $1 billion and $2 billion that it is - to some extent - believable within the exaggerated nature of it.
It would even be more expensive than the tallest building in the world: the Burj Khalifa, an 828-meter skyscraper whose final cost was about $1.5 billion.
That's not all. Space travel (like SpaceX's Crew Dragon) used to cost $55 million per seat. The Inspiration mission cost $220 million, took place in 2021 and involved four people.
Although the price of this type of 'luxury service' varies, we could go to space and back about 10 times and still have money left over. At least if the cost of the video game is really $2 billion.
We could also buy a lot of things. In a 2023 report by DAZN, the value of each F1 team was calculated. At the time, Alpine's value was estimated at $1.4 billion and Aston Martin's at $1.375 billion, for example.
Taking these figures (in 2025 they will be different, of course, but it is to give you a general idea), with what it would cost to make GTA 6 we could buy our own team, sign almost any driver on the grid and design a new car for 2026.
Necker Island, Richard Branson's private island, was valued at around $100 million and is one of the most sought-after, while a Boeing 747 is estimated to cost between $400 million and $500 million.
As I have said several times, the budget for GTA 6 has not been confirmed. Moreover, although we believe it because many sources have highlighted it, it is still to some extent incredible, as it is a monumental expenditure.
Even so, if it is true, we would not only be talking about the most expensive video game in history, but about a development so expensive that we could do all kinds of crazy things with that money... and in most cases we would have plenty left over.
